Creatine Kinase (Overview)

Creatine kinase is an enzyme found in muscles throughout the body. There are different subtypes of the enzyme, called isoforms, which predominate in different organs. For instance, the isoform in skeletal muscles is different from that which is most heavily found in the heart muscle. A blood tests detects levels of this in the body, for example if one suspects muscle inflammation.

What does a creatine kinase level of 322 indicate?

Muscle injury: Ck level of 322 is elevated but not too high. Elevated levels of ck indicate muscle injury, however strenous physical activity will raise ck levels, especially if activity is done prior to blood draw. Some medications and alcohol can casue ck elevation. ...Read more

Hello doctors, what does a 1530 mean on a creatine kinase test?

Context: If you are a sedentary adult with coronary risk factors and chest pain, you are probably having a myocardial infarction / heart attack. If you are a athletic adult who has just completed a rough strength workout in the gym or a homeowner who has spent the weekend chopping and carrying lumber, you are fine. In my population of physically-active med students, a majority have had elevated ck's. ...Read more

Being athletic: The reference range for creatine kinase is set based on the assumption that you do not exercise. My level of creatine kinase is 49, Is this level low. And what does it mean?

Probably normal: Creatine kinase (CK), also known as creatine phosphokinase (CPK) is an enzyme made by muscle tissues, including the heart muscle. Doctors most often are concerned with high levels of CK, which may indicate muscle damage.
