A blood pressure reading has two numbers: a systolic blood pressure and a diastolic blood pressure. The systolic blood pressure is the maximum pressure the blood exerts on the vessels when the heart is beating. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the vessels in between heartbeats. Hypertension, or high blood pressure, begins when the systolic blood pressure remains above 140 or when the diastolic blood pressure remains above 90. Hypertension can be a result of increased blood flow through vessels or increased resistance to ...Read more
Yes: Creatine can be an effective part of an aggressive strength training program, but you have to use it carefully. You don't simply take it and wait to get stronger, you have to put in the extra work that it allows you to do. The biggest mistake people make with creatine is to not hydrate properly and when they don't - cramps and kidney failure can occur. ...Read more
I have mild high blood pressure and take a new med called losartin 50 mgs. What could cause the creatine to be elevated then?
Good medicine: Losartan is in a class of medications called arbs (for angiotensin receptor blocker) and although they may increase creatinine some, they protect the kidneys, particularly from hbp and diabetes. However, when creatinine rises too much, it will have to be stopped. The one to define how much is too much is your physician. Be sure to ask him/her. ...Read more

High creatinine: You need to see a nephrologist (n) and have a 24 hour urine for creatinine clearance and protein done. This will give you an acutal measure of your kidney function. If you have proteinuria (p), you will need to be started on either an ace-i or an arb to reduce your BP and p. You should also have a renal ultrasound done. You may need another agent to control your bp. See a n for more answers. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

My blood pressure is not that high but i could possibly have pkd. Is it ok for me to take pre workout such as nitraflex or just avoid creatine?
PKD?: Do you have a family history of pkd? If you think you have pkd, ask your physician to order a renal ultrasound (u). If you have it, it will show up on the u. If you don't, the u will allay your fears. Then you can do as you please. Good luck. ...Read more
Not "cause": In reality we do not KNOW the true cause of high blood pressure. We do know many things that will drive it up in a predisposed individual. Considering about 30% of population has HTN, it is fairly common. Smoking and/or any act that stresses the body or mind can drive BP up in someone wo already has HTN or is genetically "ripe" to develop HTN ...Read more

A blood pressure reading has two numbers: a systolic blood pressure (top number) and a diastolic blood pressure (bottom number). The systolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the artery when the heart is at maximum contraction. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure the blood exerts on the artery when the heart is at maximum relaxation. Ideal blood pressure is 120/80 or lower. High blood pressure, or hypertension, is 140/90 or higher. ...Read more
