Can't avoid it: There is no way to totally avoid protein in your diet, and you wouldn't want to. If you have significant kidney disease your doctor may put limits on your total daily protein intake, but not stop it entirely. Check w/your doctor. ...Read more

Recently started perindopril for hbp. Blood test. Hameotology normal. B12/feratin normal creatin/gfr normal. Potassium 3.4 (ref 3.5-5.5). Problem?

Labs are all normal: Hi Lorraine, Perinopril is a commonly used, long acting med called an ACE inhibitor. (angiotensin-converting-enzyme ) These medications can cause issues with *elevated* potassium or even kidney disfunction. which is why your physician likely order these labs. Slightly low potassium is no reason for concern. Please add a few servings of K rich foods (spinach, potatoes, apricots) to your diet ...Read more

What does the creatine kinase blood test looking for?

What does the creatine kinase blood test looking for?

Muscle injury: Creatine kinase is present in all types of muscles: skeletal, heart and smooth muscles. Any injury to the muscles will raise the level of this enzyme. Some drugs, e.g., statin can also increase the level. The level cannot be too low. ...Read more

I've done blood test today and my Creatine Kinase level shown is 322 IU/L. What does that indicate? How can I reduce this CK level to normal range?

I've done blood test today and my Creatine Kinase level shown is 322 IU/L. What does that indicate? How can I reduce this CK level to normal range?

Muscle issue: Creatine Kinase is an enzyme in muscles and any issue affecting the muscles, including exercise, can raise CK levels. You need to address the cause of the elevation. You may consult this site and then discuss the matter with your doctor who ordered the test. http://www.mayomedicallaboratories.com/test-catalog/Clinical+and+Interpretive/8336 ...Read more

Blood test results for (creatine kinase) ck : 351 and ck - mb : 102. Can you explain?

Big picture: Elite athletes have higher percentage of ck-mb. The burning question is "do you have heart disease?" this is better settled with a troponin series and an electrocardiogram if the history is suggestive. ...Read more

Regarding blood test-what is co2 is high, creatine is high, egfr is low, bun/creat ratio high?

Lab results: The lab results you mention, low creatinine high and egfr is low are consistent with a person with chronic kidney disease. The co2 in chronic kidney disease is not high and can be low. The high bun-creatinine ratio is suggestive of a dehydrated state. Please provide the actual numbers of the lab values you stated for a better answer. ...Read more

Normal: Strenuous muscular exercise elevates the CK - this is NOT abnormal. Drinking water is certainly a healthy thing to do when you're sweating, but it will not have any effect on your CK. Don't worry about it. (A CK of 10,000 would be significant) ...Read more

My mom 69 yrs old suffering from diabeties n oestioporosis.. had a blood test that showed... high HDL, creatine 3, and uric acid 4. What to do?

My mom 69 yrs old suffering from diabeties n oestioporosis.. had a blood test that showed... high HDL, creatine 3, and uric acid 4. What to do?

Not creatine: Hi. We don't measure creatine. I bet it was her creatinine that was 3, in which case they will prepare her for dialysis. Her kidneys are failing. High HDL is not associated with risk; do you mean high LDL? She needs a statin regardless...the cause of death in kidney failure is heart attack (as long as they don't quit going to dialysis). I'm sorry. Good luck to her. ...Read more

I am T1 Diabetic, had a blood test, had 1000 protein leakage from kidney. Creatine and other kidney tests all show healthy kidney. What's wrong?

I am T1 Diabetic, had a blood test, had 1000 protein leakage from kidney. Creatine and other kidney tests all show healthy kidney. What's wrong?

If you have t1dm: and are leading protein into your urine at such an early age, it's most often due to poor control of blood pressure or blood sugar - or both. A very high protein diet can also make it worse. Check w/your doctor about ACE inhibitors or ARB therapy which may help decrease your protein excretion and keep it for worsening. This is a totally separate problem from kidney blood tests. ...Read more

High creatinine: You need to see a nephrologist (n) and have a 24 hour urine for creatinine clearance and protein done. This will give you an acutal measure of your kidney function. If you have proteinuria (p), you will need to be started on either an ace-i or an arb to reduce your BP and p. You should also have a renal ultrasound done. You may need another agent to control your bp. See a n for more answers. ...Read more

Urine glucose?: Positive Urine Glucose is never normal. But you mention normal serum glucose? Keep in touch with the ordering physician and followup on this. Hard to say much about fever as there is so much more to know about it. Duration? Sore throat or other associated symptoms? Rash? Ill appearance? contacts with illness? Mother suffering with kidney problem. We got the blood report , in the report serum creatine is 7.5 mg remaining things are not bad. So how to reduce?

It depends, acute?: If chronic, long standing problem, it will not be correctable. But if acute i.e. New problem due to a dehydration or medication or bladder retention, it may be correctable. You need to know the name of the disease (diagnosis that caused kidneys to fail) from doc. If not correctable, needs dialysis. Transplant is doable unless has cancer, poor health, older than 75 but takes few yrs unless from family. ...Read more

Will high bloodsugar cause low creatin levels in urine? I had blood sugar levels of 300 and above and recently took a drug test that came back having low creatin levels.

Will high bloodsugar cause low creatin levels in urine? I had blood sugar levels of 300 and above and recently took a drug test that came back having low creatin levels.

Diluted urine: A low creatinine is not from elevated sugars, but from excessive water drinking, which is common in diabetics. It means you are drinking enough water to dilute your urine. It is not dangerous, but most drug tests will be considered "adulterated" - a failed test - if the creatinine is below 20. Get your diabetes under control asap. Continued high sugars are dangerous to your health. ...Read more
