In either case, it sounds rather to be something neurologic. Consult with your family doctor first, who will then direct you to sub specialists. ...Read more

What you suspect when a lady 49 nearing menopause has change in skin at junction of two labias with itch and minute sores, anti fungal does not help?

A few possibilities: If you have already tried antifungals (which is a great first try!), then I'm wondering if this may be thinning of your vulvar tissue from waning hormone levels. The sores could be mild atrophy combined with normal sex - be sure to use a lubricant! The itching still bothers me, so that may just be the healing process. The most I would suggest would be otc Hydrocortisone cream to ease irritation. ...Read more

Besides hrt, is there anything I can do to deal with skin and hair changes at menopause?

Besides hrt, is there anything I can do to deal with skin and hair changes at menopause?

Tough question!: With menopause comes changes in skin and hair like you are experiencing. Hair loss is common and results from "male pattern losses" and thinning of the caliber of the hair itself. This is called androgenic alopecia. It is treatable using male hair loss medications, but this would require lifetime use! skin changes, likewise, are difficult to treat. Don't take hormones just for these symptoms! ...Read more

Now taking lansoprazole (for gerd)and doxy-cycl hycl (for skin issues)- can I start amberen for menopause symptoms?

Probably not: 1st concern would be your gerd sx and the Doxycycline you're taking. Doxy can cause reflux-like symptoms when taken orally. Suggest you talk w/ your doctor (s) about that. Amberen is an unregulated product that appears to have various minerals in a "proprietary blend". Suggest d/w your doc, but i'd have a few concerns, one of which is it looks like it could interfere with absorption of your doxy. ...Read more
