Craniopharyngioma In Children

Over time this slow growing tumor slows the output of growth factors & other agents leading to symptoms like short stature, easy dehydration, vision changes, etc. Leading to dx. Puberty would not progress as expected in with this tumor in place. ...Read more

Report visual fields: If the chiasm was affected then, you'd have lost visual fields in BOTH eyes. If you had visual field loss only in one eye then, it is more likely that the problem is in front of or beyond the chiasm which could be then, an optic nerve or one set of optic radiations. ...Read more
Why is pituitary adenoma infratentorial in adult tumors but craniopharyngioma is supratentorial in childhood?
Sella Turcica: The tentorium cerebelli separates the cerebellum from the cerebrum. Supratentorial means ABOVE the tentorium and Infratentorial means BELOW. The pituitary gland sits in a special area called the hypophyseal fossa or sella turcia which is technically neither. Craniopharyngioma and pituitary adenoma grow SUPRATENTORIALLY in almost all cases, but rarely invade the clivus into the posterior fossa. ...Read more
