There are many possible reasons that you may have painful feet, but try cushioning arch supports like spenco polysorb cross-trainers(http://www.Spenco. Com/products/footcare/poly-sorb). If these don't help, see a podiatrist.... Also, try an otc anti-inflammatory, like aleve (naproxen). ...Read more

Ice the knee twice daily for 20 minutes and see if an Ace wrap helps. See an orthopedist for advice if swelling. ...Read more

Another possibility could be potassium, or calcium defciiency. Last, if you were exercising during the day, Lactic Acid buildup could cause cramping. I would suggest a non-invasive vascular study to determine if there is any blockage or decreased blood flow. ...Read more

My mother is 60 and at a normal weight. Is it normal for her legs to cramp, and for her ankle and foot to become swollen standing for a long period.?

Difficult to say: Although the cause of swelling and cramping is often difficult to figure out, I agree with your hesitation to accept that this is normal if her weight and activity level are also normal, especially if this started suddenly.
