Crackling Noise In Throat Thyroid
My throat feels thicker/wider in the middle where my thyroid would be. I'm 19. What could be the cause?
Thyroid: Likely not to be a problem but worthwhile seeing your doctor. Read more
Goiter: If the thyroid is large it can cause narrowing of the airway and that is an indication for surgery. You should have your thyroid hormone levels checked, if hyper or hypoactive it can be treated. If the hormone level is normal, you should have a cat scan to determine if the gland is narrowing the breathing pipe or trachea. If so surgery may treat your problem. Finally you should look for other causes of shortness of breath including asthma or obstructive sleep apnea. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

Sore: Sore throat is a fairly common symptom associated with many illnesses. Most of the time it resolves on its own without any other issues. Occasionally it can be due to something more serious that needs treatment. Reasons to seek care are: - any fever - since it could be strep and you can't tell without an exam/testing - if it lasts longer than 3 or 4 days - any difficulty opening your mouth - unable to swallow - severe pain - bleeding in the throat - redness or swelling on the outside of the neck - any difficulty breathing or noisy breathing in the meantime, taking Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen for pain, drinking plenty of fluids such as hot tea/broth or cold liquids and a spoonful of honey can help. Even though there are many muscles in the neck surrounding the thyroid, the thyroid is an endocrine organ, not a muscle, and typically does not cause throat pain. Read more
Sore throat: Throat swelling and soreness can be due to an a virus (cold) or bacterial (strep) infection, post nasal drip from nose congestion, heartburn, smoking, air pollution, or even yelling. It is much less common for an enlarged thyroid to cause a swollen throat but if you have a thyroid problem, you should have your doctor exam you. Fortunately most sore throats are minor and go away by themselves. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers

I have pain in throat. Mabye thyroid gland when touching. No other symptoms. I smoke 1 pack of cigaret.?
Throat pain: A sore throat is likely due to pharyngitis (viral is most likely; however, if fevers and persistent you would want to rule out bacterial). Smoking is also an irritant and can contribute to throat discomfort. Quitting smoking is best for your health in general. If you can feel your thyroid gland, have a doctor exam it - they will be able to determine if it needs further evaluation/tests. Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
