Cracked Rib Or Pulled Muscle
Doesn't matter: Whether a rib is broken or bruised is not a particularly meaningful distinction- both are quite painful and the pain lasts for weeks. An easy way to tell the difference, is to compress the chest wall (place hands away from the area of soreness). When you compress the chest wall, if pain is felt at the area of soreness, the rib is likely cracked (bruises only hurt when you press directly on them). Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I feel slight discomfort on my right ribs when I move. Can this be pulled muscle? I did the laundry 3 days ago and I think maybe that's the reason
Could be..: Yes, it certainly could be pulled muscles. It's possible you strained the muscles inbetween your ribs, called the intercostal muscles, and this can cause discomfort when moving a certain way or even with deep breaths. Try Ibuprofen or Naproxen to help with the pain and inflammation. If it gets very severe, you may also need a prescription muscle relaxant. You could also try a heating pad. Read more
Iv just started working out. Mainly tredmill. I just have pain in thebottem left side of my ribs could this be pulled muscle or how long should I wait?
Not long: Pain in the left rib area could be many things. In general exercise should not be painful or cause pain especially pain that lasts more than a day or so. Certainly cramping/pulled muscles could be the cause, but more serious conditions could be the case such as heart conditions or even a spleen issue. Discussing this with your dr would be a good idea to get a better description and history. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have been having pain around my left front side of lower ribs for months now. I also have back pain that almost feels like a pulled muscle. Ideas?
You've answered it!: Best to see an osteopathic physician, who can help you with both issues further. S/he can do a osteopathic structural musculoskeletal examination of your head, neck, back, hips, sacrum, pelvis, lower/upper extremities, and ribs to see how your postural mechanics, gait, asymmetric compensatory patterns are all working together to determine what exactly is happening, and provide treatment. It is good that you are exercising. You may take a bit easier with exercise till this heals and then gradually increase the intensity of exercise.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form.
Practice safe sex, if you have sex.

Sharp pain left side, what are signs and treatments for bruised rib/pulled muscle there? Pain comes and goes
Anti-inflammatory: A pulled muscle is certainly a possibility, especially at your age, and would be more tender between the ribs. A bruised rib would be more tender directly on the involved rib. Try an oral anti-inflammatory (ibuprofen - aka Motrin or advil, or naproxyn - aleve) for a week or two, and see a physician if symptoms persist. Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer

I have a burning sensation and pain that feels almost like a pulled muscle on the right side of my chest. What could be some of the possibilities? Thx
Have it looked at: While a pulled pectoral muscle may cause pain and abnormal sensation, it's important to have it looked at to make sure it's not from an underlying cardiac condition. One differentiating factor is the muscle pain is oftentimes reproducible - if you push on it, it will hurt more - whereas cardiac pain may not be. However, without knowing further details - it's importan to see your internist/fp soon. Read more
