What does it mean if you're not pregnant but have scab or cracked nipples?

What does it mean if you're not pregnant but have scab or cracked nipples?

Get this checked: I would recommend that a patient get this checked by a physician. It may be something minimal like a scrape etc. Or it could represent something more like an early paget's disease or an underlying malignancy perhaps. Especially if there is no easy explanation for scab or cracking skin of the nipples.

Cracked nipples is really bothering my wife who is feeding our1 week old baby. Extremely painful. How to get out of it?

Shield and lotion: A nipple shield and a lanolin-based lotion might be just the ticket. The nipple shield is a small, silicone shield worn over the nipple during breast feeding to protect it. The lanolin-based lotion will help to protect and restore the skin around the nipple and areola. She should be able to find both at any good store that sells stuff for babies and moms.

Moisturizing lotions: I like water-based moisturizing lotions. My favorites are dml lotion and dml forte cream. These are water based, and don't have any fragrences or colorings that could cause skin irritations. Http://www. Personandcovey. Com/productdetail. Asp? Productid=19.

What can be done for very dry and cracked nipples.?

Lansinoh cream, TLC: I assume you are breastfeeding--congrats, you are giving your baby the best gift ever. Lansinoh is nontoxic and can be used without washing off. Otherwise, wear a soft t-shirt (at home) and avoid any moisture in contact with your nipples--ie, leave bra flaps open. Do not wash nipples before and after nursing. You can also try a cool wet tea bag compress for 15 min or so between feedings.

What can I take to reduce the soreness around cracked nipples?

Sore nipples: You can apply the cream they give you at the hospital for the soreness to calm down. You could also wash off your nipple after each fedign&then squeeze some breast milk & rub it over the nipples. This helps it heal faster. Also, when the baby is made to unlatch at the breast you insert your little finger in the corner of his/ her mouth before you pull his/ her mouth away to avoid more cracking.

I am breastfeeding my baby. He's a month old but I have cracked nipples. It bleeds sometimes. What can I use? It hurts to breastfeed.

Breastfeeding: Nipples that are cracked and bleeding can be from incorrect latching or positioning. Correct positioning and latching may help. Lanolin can also be used. If redness or severe pain develop then those could be a sign of yeast infection. See a lactation consultant or knowledgeable physician.
