Urine output: is one way you can get an estimate of her state of hydration. A child who is dehydrated will have very little urine production. If she is drinking well and has good urine output, her dry lips could be from licking them or from mouth breathing. Lip dryness: First you need to stop using all topical stuff on your lips, such as lip balm, lipstick, etc. It can be a contact dermatitis. I would only use vaseline and Elidel (pimecrolimus) twice a day. Do you have skin rashes anywhere else? If so, seek the opinion of an allergist to find out the cause of your problem. ...Read more

Xerostomia:: The effect of incidental irradiation to the parotid (salivary) glands. It may be permanent. You need to visit and speak with your radiation oncology team that provided your treatment. There are some simple things that can ameliorate, and there were some options to use during treatment..No sense going there. Some suggestions: First of all make sure that you are not licking your lips as this dries them out even more. Keep lip balm on them at all times and try these more therapeutic types of lip balm, Kiehl's Lip Balm #1 or Aquaphor Healing Ointment. Next make sure that you are drinking adequate water, at least 48 oz per day and more is better. Try to minimize caffeinated beverages. Avoid alcohol and tobacco . ...Read more
