Board certified MD?: Make sure the doc telling you this is doing skin testing and not blood testing, consider a trip to a board certified allergy immunologist specialist, unlikely all of these positive tests are clinically significant. ...Read more

Whats better for head lice and nits: apple cider vinegar vs. Tea tree oil?

Whats better for head lice and nits: apple cider vinegar vs. Tea tree oil?

Neither: Nits are the eggs of head lice, so you are right to seek a treatment that kills both. Vinegar and oil tend to fail. Pesticides can be toxic. We recommend harmless interventions, like forming a silicon shell on the head with applications such as licemd. ...Read more

Allergy to organic trail mix. Throat closed. Which ingred likely? Raisin, sunflower seed, pumpkin seed, cashew, apples, almonds, cranberries, cane syrup

Food allergy: An allergist can help diagnose and treating this particular problem. I would advise you seek specialist medical advice soon. ...Read more

Will Heinz apple cider vinegar work like brAggs apple cider vinegar?

Will Heinz apple cider vinegar work like brAggs apple cider vinegar?

Not entirely but...: Bragg's is raw/unpasteurized whereas I'm fairly sure Heinz is pasteurized. Pasteurization degrades some nutrients and enzymes that are beneficial. Also, Bragg's is organic whereas Heinz is not, and apples are in the EWG "Dirty Dozen" and high in pesticide residues. Heinz should have many of the same benefits but, given a choice, I recommend Bragg's. ...Read more

Is 1 avacodo, handful almonds, sunflower seeds, walnuts, spinach leaves, tomatoe and onion a healthy lunch?

I am allergic to chicken, pork, beef, clam, egg, soy, barley, oat, cashew, brazil nut, and english walnut. Could I have a protein intolerance?

I am allergic to chicken, pork, beef, clam, egg, soy, barley, oat, cashew, brazil nut, and english walnut. Could I have a protein intolerance?

What kind of allergy: Prick, blood tests not very accurate re: food allergies. Neg tests exclude an immune reaction (true allergy), but pos tests have less value. Best test is a double-blind food challenge (neither tester nor pt know which is which, until code is cracked at end of test); cumbersome. This excludes about 90% of "allergies". Other blood tests can be used, not "live-cell"-bogus, no "applied kinesiology". ...Read more

What's the most effective an FAST way to cure ringworm? Apple cider vinegar? Tea tree oil? Garlic?

What's the most effective an FAST way to cure ringworm? Apple cider vinegar? Tea tree oil? Garlic?

Real antifungal: Tolaftate is available without a prescription. Terbinafine topical is also good. I'd prefer to see you use a topical agent rather than taking medication systemically whenever possible. These should be effective but it may take a few weeks. Apple cider vinegar, tea tree oil, and garlic are promoted on "natural healing" sites for everything -- trying them would be your business. Best wishes. ...Read more

Ate spaghetti squash (w/olive oil, goat cheese, salt, pepper). Nose swollen inside, sinusdrainage, asthma. Allergic to squash?!? Other food allergies.

Ate spaghetti squash (w/olive oil, goat cheese, salt, pepper). Nose swollen inside, sinusdrainage, asthma. Allergic to squash?!? Other food allergies.

Food allergy: If you ate the squash and had an immediate reaction (minutes to 2hrs) that included hives, swelling, shortness of breath, wheeze, throat tightness, vomiting or passing out then I would be concerned for a food allergy reaction. Would make an appointment with an allergist to determine what could be the culprit foods. Bring list of ingredients eaten that meal to appointment. Avoid foods until seen. ...Read more

There are no: scientific randomized controlled study data to support the claims made by many herbal medicine pundits, let alone 2000 years of Chinese medicine wisdom. Does tea tree oil treat lice?

Tea Tree Oil: Although tea tree oil is generally considered safer than other treatments for head lice, caution should still be employed when using it.
