Creatine Kinase (Definition)

Creatine kinase is an enzyme found in muscles throughout the body. There are different subtypes of the enzyme, called isoforms, which predominate in different organs. For instance, the isoform in skeletal muscles is different from that which is most heavily found in the heart muscle. A blood tests detects levels of this in the body, for example if ...Read more

The result of my blood test for C3 complement is high and CPK result is too low, so do I have lupus?

The result of my blood test for C3 complement is high and CPK result is too low, so do I have lupus?

Incomplete : Information. High c3 is an acute phase reactant and may be elevated in any case of inflammation. CPK is an indicator of muscle damage and there is no value that is too low. Diagnosis of lupus is based on a number of parameters and is a combination of clinical findings and lab tests. Please consult your doctor for a proper evaluation. ...Read more

The result of my blood test for C3 complement is high and CPK result is too low, does this mean I have symptoms of lupus?

No: High c3 is not expected in lupus. More likely it could be normal or low. CPK is high in some connective tissue diseases such as poly myosotis, dermatomyositis, and overlap syndrome of myosotis and lupus. It most definitely is not low. ...Read more

I have lupus -but my doctor never checks me urine ;but she does a cbc, cmp, esr, complements, cpk, bun, and creatinine. Should i be concerned w/ no ua?

Urine in lupus: Lupus is known to affect the kidneys, however, not in every patient. If there is a concern that your kidneys are affected, you doc should check your urine. It sounds she checks your kidney function by way of creatinine, so she monitors kidney function already. If you have any symptoms related to your kidneys - frequency, urgency, bloody/cloudy urine you need to bring them up to your doc. ...Read more

I have low c3, high c4, high cpk, high ana, muscle pain and weakness and bad fatigue. 1 Dr. said Lupus. 1 Dr. say MS. 1 Dr said Lymes????

SLE?: Hi, if these are all the symptoms that you have u still don;t meet the criteria for SLE (u need 4 out of 11 criteria, u only have 2, ANA and weakness), C3, C4 are not diagnostic just we follow them in SLE to monitor the response to the treatment, MS, per se, may not cause the rise of CPK unless there is muscle wasting due to inactivity, The lyme doesn't fit the symptoms much although it's not ...Read more

Muscle injury: CPK (an old term) is a marker of injury to muscle, be it skeletal, cardiac or smooth muscle. Aldolase is a non-specific marker of tissue injury and does not add any more information. Why did you have the tests done? What were the findings of other tests? ...Read more

What could increased creatine kinase and aldolase levels indicate?

What could increased creatine kinase and aldolase levels indicate?

Likely muscle injury: Creatine kinase and aldolase would both be elevated after a muscle injury. Ck can also be elevated in kidney failure. Adolase can be sub-classified into a, b and c which helps differentiate from which tissue the high levels came. ...Read more

Can you have a muscle disease...If CPK normal 5 times aldolase normal...Emg and ncv normal ..Esr normal....Can you still have a muscle disease ?

Why do you ask?: What do you think you have? Myasthenia gravis? Mitochondria myopathy? Mcardle's? Periodic paralysis? Myotonia congenita? Lumping everything together as "muscle disease" and expecting any sort of unifying set of labs / tests is naive. Start with your symptoms / signs and let a competent scientific physician rule the entities in or out until an explanation is found. ...Read more
