I have a bruise under my eye from a fall 3+ months ago, where I hit my head and my nose. Cat scan normal. The bruise is still there, What can it be?

Blood vessel?: Some people have blood vessels underneath their eyes. If perhaps this is the same place as where you struck your face then these blood vessels may have been damaged. I would suggest a face to face exam with your doctor to confirm or rule out other causes. Good luck. ...Read more

My mom's head span and fell on the floor and hit her head. There's all normal in report of CT scan. What tests should she do to know d cause of spin?

Clinical evaluation: Her physician can evaluate her for signs of a nervous system or inner ear problem by a clinical exam. If abnormalities of balance or eye movement are found, further testing may be indicated. Vertigo (feeling of spinning) is very common. Most of the time it can be treated successfully. Car accident abi x 2yrs, hit my head on the left, ct-scan obtained unremarkable, memory started to deteriorate, tingling on back of head now, problem?

ABI or TBI: Ct/mri after the initial head injury (up to 2-3 weeks in some cases) may be normal. In this case brain MRI may be normal, but important for ruling out old bleed/sdh. Functional dynamic brain imaging is available but not readily available or affordable. Neuropsychiatric testing can diagnose, define specific deficits & recommend specific treatment. Improvements is seen in those who are proactive. ...Read more

Is a chronic subdural hematoma detected by CT scan important or just a normal occurance in a 83 year old that hit head 3 days prior to scan?

Is a chronic subdural hematoma detected by CT scan important or just a normal occurance in a 83 year old that hit head 3 days prior to scan?

Chronic > 3 days: "Chronic" means that the bleeding began a few wks after injury. Thus, it is less likely that the hit to the head 3 days prior to the head CT caused the "chronic" subdural hematoma (SDH). SDH and head trauma are risk factors for seizures and other conditions. The patient should be closely monitored and see a neurologist for evaluation. Http://www. Nlm. Nih. Gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000781.htm ...Read more

Hit head hard under granite countertop. Urgent care did x-rays, came back normal. No symptoms except head hurts. Is a CT scan still needed?

Probably not: It is not surprising to have a headache after hitting your head on granite. Your scalp is very likely bruised and may be quite sore, tender and/or swollen for a while. If you did not lose consciousness and you have no other symptoms and if your physical exam was normal, there is probably no need to do a ct scan. ...Read more

A: A concussion is simply traumatic brain injury as the result to a direct or indirect blow to the head. A ct can rule out fracture or bleeding but cannot diagnose a concussion. A contussion is merely the outer swelling/bruising of the skin and head.
Symptoms of concussion include: altered level of consciousness, headache, nasea/vomiting, etc.
At this point in time the most important things to rule out are bleed/fracture which the ct did. Now you just need to monitor for improvement. ...Read more

17day old black eye. Saw eye doc. Ct facial scan. No fracture. Still have mild headache on side where got hit. Is this normal at this point? Worry? : (

Captain Bleye?: I wouldn't worry. You could have a headache at least as long as you have that black eye. You probably had/have a small localized concussion in that area but it will eventually settle down. It's hard to predict how long but rest assured it will go away---as long as you don't re-injure yourself. Of course, if it starts to get worse then get an exam. ...Read more

I've never had headaches in my life until hitting my head over a yr ago. Now when I do they are pretty bad, days long and one sided. Normal?

Concerning sign: Any headache that is new and persistent, especially when one-sided, and it does not respond to over-the-counter pain relievers, is worth a closer look. The fact that you have had them a year and are still around to talk about is reassuring though. It would be a good idea to get an examination from your primary care provider who can decide what steps should be taken next if no cause is evident. ...Read more

My 7 month old fell backwards and hit the back of his head kinda hard. He cried but quickly settled down. He seems normal, but will he be ok?

My 7 month old fell backwards and hit the back of his head kinda hard. He cried but quickly settled down. He seems normal, but will he be ok?

Probably: Most kids who fall back from their sitting height do not generate the kind of force needed to hurt them. This would be different if they hit the corner of furnature or brickwork. They cry, and settle quiickly. I would be worried if the kid passed out at the time of the fall or developed repeated episodes of vomiting. Keep him on his normal nap/sleep schedule and monitor as needed. ...Read more

Can white spots on MRI be caused by past trauma, such as falling and hitting head as a child? (Spinal tap normal)

Motion artifact?: Any imaging test, especially an MRI, can have spots in them that are not a real abnormality, called motion artifact. Your radiologist should be able to tell if the spots are something real or not, because the dots can represent fluid collections as well. If some question exists about whether this is a real finding, you will need to repeat the study, sorry. Trauma can cause fluid collections... ...Read more

I had a brain MRI without contrast after hitting my head that was "normal". Would it have shown increased pressure or bleeding without contrast?

CT w/o contrast: MRIs ate great but not the gold standard for strokes or bleeding. A CT w/o contrast is usually what is used to determine if you are bleeding in your brain. In any event Imagining is only a small part of the puzzle, your history plus how you hit your head and your current symptoms plus vital signs all need to be looked at together. IF Recurring symptoms or worsening get to ED/ urgent car ...Read more
