A friend had a spi 4yrs ago. He was cough up blood. The dr says apart of his lung is dead. What does this mean and what can be done to fix this?

The dead lung reference may be due to the physician seeing an area where there is emphysema on an x-ray or bases in results of pulmonary function test. If your friend is seeing blood from nose/ mouth, then he/she should be seen by a doctor. Could be a sign of something benign or something malignant. ...Read more
No known lung issues, never smoked, but is it normal to occasionally cough up mucous with a 1" stringy, hard piece of tissue, helix-structure inside?
Could my bronchitis turn into pneumonia if I can't cough up the mucus in my lungs my chest is now crackling instead of wheezing?
For two days now I cough up small amounts of thick, clear mucus. I feel like it comes from my lungs but could be from throat. No other symptoms.
Not normal: While this may not represent a major problem, it would not be considered "normal". A follow up with the thoracic surgeon would be advised. Surgical staples used to remove part of a lung could migrate and be coughed up, but evaluation by the surgeon would be best to make sure this doesn't represent a more serious problem. ...Read more

Fluid on lungs after gb surgery. Has dementia and cannot walk around much or cough up phlegm. What is the treatment and outlook? Still in hospital.
Fluid around lungs: After gb surgery is not common. If the gallbladder was very infected it may be reactive fluid. Other causes, such as pneumonia, should be considered. If it is infection then appropriate antibiotics should be started. If there is a lot of fluid restricting breathing then a tube may be placed to remove the fluid. As long as oxygen levels are good and infection controlled it should get better. ...Read more
