Been having a slight pressure/fluttery feeling right below my left rib cage. Not experiencing any pain but have had it for about a week now and beginning to get concerned. A friend said it could be a muscle spasm. Should I be concerned?

I think you're...: ...already concerned! Here are some reasons that I, as a doctor, would also be concerned: 1) if it IS painful. 2) If you get other symptoms with it. 3) If it interferes with your regular activities 4) If you're REALLY worried. Sometimes a visit to the doctor is therapeutic if only to reassure you that there's nothing to worry about. Best wishes. Dr. Anne ...Read more

I have a swollen abdominal still 4 years later after my abortion. Nothing I try helps to get it away. Could this be a serious problem?

I have a swollen abdominal still 4 years later after my abortion. Nothing I try helps to get it away. Could this be a serious problem?

It is unrelated: What a "swollen abdomen" means to each person is different. If you mean you do not have a perfectly flat stomach, this is normal as the years pass. The abdominal wall muscle tone becomes looser & a little bit of NORMAL subcutaneous fat may protrude. If by swollen abdomen you mean a truly protruding mass, then diagnosis of a problem inside the abdomen needs to be pursued. It is not from abortion. ...Read more

Possibly: You can develop a sore throat from frequent coughing or from a post nasal drip. If you have had a cough for several weeks and have not been evaluated a medical visit is warranted. Ive had lower back pain for about a week now. It does go down my right leg but Im feeling a bit nauseous. Could it be a kidney infeciton?

Less likely: Lower back pain that radiates down one leg is due to compression of the sciatic nerve by a herniated or bulging disc or arthritic changes in the spine. The pain is usually located in the low back well below the level of the umbilicus. Kidney pain from infection is located in the back at or above the level of the umbilicus(belly button).
