Birth Control Pills (Definition)

Also known as oral contraceptives, birth control pills are highly effective oral medications that use hormones to prevent pregnancy. There are two main types of birth control pills: one with estrogen and progestin (also known as the combination pill) and one with just progestin. The two main ways they prevent pregnancy are: 1) The hormones thicken the cervical mucous, which keeps sperm from entering the uterus on their way to the egg; and 2) By maintaining a level of hormone in the blood stream that prevents the ...Read more

Can you take mega t green tea pills with birth control I have been on birth control for 3 years now, and was wondering if i can take this pill with birth control

Can you take mega t green tea pills with birth control I have been on birth control for 3 years now, and was wondering if i can take this pill with birth control

Green : Green tea pills are not regulated by the fda (food and drug administration) therefore there has been no formal studies as far as interactions are concerned. From a medical standpoint i don't see how they would interact with birth control pills, but i could be wrong. You should note that supplements such as the one in question are not controlled or studied by the fda, therefore be extra cautious when taking them. Best of luck. ...Read more

Hello, I can't remember to take my birth control pills usually and I did not like the nexaplanon, are there any other birth control methods avalible?

Hello, I can't remember to take my birth control pills usually and I did not like the nexaplanon, are there any other birth control methods avalible?

Remembering BC Pills: I tell my patients to leave their BC pills right next to their toothbrush as a reminder each day. Now if you don't brush every day (yuck!) or travel a lot, that will not help. For patients who tolerate BC pills but cannot remember to take them every day, the Nuvaring is a good compromise. You only have to remember to insert the ring once a month, and fewer side effects than Nex. or Depo shot. ...Read more

I missed 2 birth control pills and i started to have my period, if i carry on taking the pills will my period stop or should I just stop taking them?

I missed 2 birth control pills and i started to have my period, if i carry on taking the pills will my period stop or should I just stop taking them?

Hard to say: In theory, it should stop the period, and i would recommend restarting the pills - if you still want to use them and need them for birth control. That way you won't have to wait, and restart them again sometimes in the future. I would recommend using a back-up method for the next month (just as a precaution, technically, you 'should' be protected after missing only 2 pills, but why take a chance? ...Read more

Can i take phentermine and thyroid medication at the same time? I am also taking sprintec birth control.

Can i take phentermine and thyroid medication at the same time? I am also taking sprintec birth control.

Yes, but: You need to take the thyroid medication if your thyroid level is abnormal. The Phentermine will only affect it if your dose of either is excessive. The phentermine, however, only works for as long as you take it - then you'll begin to gain the weight back unless you've learned how to eat properly - if you have, you don't need the Phentermine in the first place. ...Read more

I am on birth control but I don't take the pills that are during my period? Does that effect anything

I am on birth control but I don't take the pills that are during my period? Does that effect anything

No: The last week of pills in a 28-day pack are "inactive", so they do not change the effectiveness of the birth control pills if those last 7 pills are not taken. That means the effectiveness of the pack of pills is just as good, if one takes all 28 pills, or if one takes the first 21 pills, then takes nothing for 7 days, and then starts her next new pack of 28 pills. Withdrawal period still happens. ...Read more

I have been on the Microgestin birth control pill for 5-6 years. Could that be the cause of my gastritis? Should I stop taking the pills?

I have been on the Microgestin birth control pill for 5-6 years. Could that be the cause of my gastritis? Should I stop taking the pills?

Unlikely: was your gastritis diagnosed by an endoscopy (they put a fiberoptic tube through mouth and into stomach to look at your stomach) or is the diagnosis based on your symptoms? If true gastritis (inflammation of the lining of our stomach) unlikely caused by your BCP. If you are having stomach upset issues, nausea, etc it may be.I would not stop the pill until you have a chance to discuss with doctor ...Read more

I just took my last placebo pill in my birth control pack. I am going to stop taking the pill. What changes and symptoms are going to happen?

Oral contraceptives: Menstruation is controlled by the hormones in birth control. When you stop taking the pill, it may take a little time for your natural cycle to reassert itself. The timing of your next period cannot be predicted and could be earlier or later than expected. Be sure to use another form of contraception if pregnancy is not desired. ...Read more
