Possible: It is always possible, but ibs is a diagnosis of exclusion; if there is another diagnosis (like the diverticulitis) that explains the symptoms, you treat that first before assuming ibs. ...Read more

You may need tests: Many symptoms of ibs and crohn's disease overlap, including diarrhea, abdominal pain. Most people with ibs do not have crohn's disease as well.
