Could I be pregnant if I have the plastic IUD in place?

Could I be pregnant if I have the plastic IUD in place?

Yes, but uncommon: Iud properly placed can be high effective..Such as Mirena (levonorgestrel) which touts over 99% efficacy/protection from pregnancy. Thus, you chance of pregnancy with a correctly placed and funtioning iud is very low... If you have symptoms of pregnancy though, i would suggest a home pregnancy test or consult your doc for eval... According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, only 5% of babies arrive on the exact due date. Approximately 7% of babies are not delivered by 42 weeks, and when that happens, it is referred to ...Read more

I had the skyla IUD for non pregnant women put in today i have severe cramping the doctor made sure it was in place after when will this pain go away?

IUD: Every woman has a different size womb (uterus) and some are smaller than others. What happens if I get pregnant while I still have the progesterone IUD in place?

Depends on LMP: We usually recommend removal. While removal might cause you to lose the pregnancy, leaving the IUD increases the risk for severe intrauterine infection. As well, the progesterone, like depo-provera or norplant, (levonorgestrel) might increase the risk of a tubal pregnancy, therefore an ultrasound to determine where the pregnancy resides is as important as removal of the iud. ...Read more

I have the mirena (levonorgestrel) to prevent pregnancy, i'm worried that i could still become pregnant. I am curious if this was a safe choice.

Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is safe: The risk of getting pregnant with an iud inserted is about the same as using a pill.... Very low. It's indicated in one partner, relationships. It's not meant for multi-sexual partners due to the risk of std's. Be aware of that at your age (22). Practice safe sex as always, and go see your doctor if you have any more questions. ...Read more

Should i be scared of began pregnant if i had sex more then onces the same day with out a condom how long should I wait to find out .
What are the chance that i may be pregnant

Anytime : Anytime you have unprotected sex, you put yourself at risk for pregnancy. You can either take a home pregnancy test as long as it has been 5- 6 weeks since your last normal period (3-4 weeks since having unprotected sex), or you can go see your doctor and they can test you. A home pregnancy test is 97% accurate if taken a week or more after the missed period or 3-4 weeks after conception. A blood test can tell if you are pregnant as soon as 7 days after conception and a doctor's urine pregnancy test can tell if you are pregnant around when you next period should come. ...Read more

My IUD slipped and I had sec the night before and he had finished inside me could I be pregnant ?

Slipped ?: If you mean it fell out and is no longer in your uterus it would not work as intended. If it just moved some it probably would.Conception is a process that occurs up to 3 or so days after intercource with the conceptus moving into the uterus a a day or more later. The hormone coated IUD's have a different effect than the copper. But if either is gone I would not expect it to work. ...Read more

I have an iud in & this is my last year having it , & my last period lasted 2 days , & usually last me a full 8 days, could I be pregnant?

Dr. Alvin Lin Dr. Lin
1 doctor agreed:

Unlikely: Intrauterine devices are typically active & effective up to 2yrs past their end date (http://www.cosmopolitan.com/health-fitness/advice/a33098/iud-contraception-facts/) although you don't want to push it and end up w/undesired pregnancy. With that said, shortened period is not a sign of pregnancy. But if you're still concerned, take home pregnancy test if/when 4wks late. ...Read more

I had my IUD removed 3 weeks ago but only had my period for one day after it got removed and i havnt had a period since could i be pregnant?

Yes its possible: I am not sure when you say "you got period 1 day after it was removed - if you mean immediately or now 3 wks later. It wouldnt be unusual to have a little bleeding after iud removal and it may not be real period. Otherwise 3 weeks is a little early to expect a cycle- should be another week. However if you had sex during your high fertility time ( last wk) then pregnancy is possible. ...Read more

I had the mirena (levonorgestrel) iud and for some reason I thought I may be pregnant. I've had 12 negative tests but still get scared could I be pregnant?

12 the same day ?: If you are late & you spread your 12 tests out over several weeks you likely just missed a period (which happens). If you are not late but took the tests before you expect your cycle it is too early. Your IUD has a super effectiveness record so add that to the tests & you are likely not PG. If you obsess over the idea you may need a life coach to teach you how to deal with such ideas. ...Read more

I had IUD removal January 27th and had unprotected sex February 1st it is now day 18 with negative pregnancy tests. Could I be pregnant?

Too early: It is too early to be sure. A positive test at this point would likely be accurate, however.the urine based test is depends on chemicals made by the new cell mass to turn positive. It may take longer to build up the concentration of these chemicals. An early morning specimen is a little more concentrated. ...Read more

Maybe: You need to see your provider soon to sort this out. You may need an ultrasound to see if your iud is in the right position. If not in the right position, this could lead to a pregnancy . However, most of the time, this is not the case. So, get it checked out soon! ...Read more
