Would a stress test, echocardiogram, or an EKG detect if you have an arrhythmia if they aren't looking?

Would a stress test, echocardiogram, or an EKG detect if you have an arrhythmia if they aren't looking?

Maybe: Only if they were lucky enough to be looking at the time. A holster monitor would be a better choice to monitor and record cardiac activity over a period of time. ...Read more

Hi! Would an echocardiogram detect an abnormal heartbeat or arrhythmia? I had one done within the year but still get random flutter and heart racing

Hi! Would an echocardiogram detect an abnormal heartbeat or arrhythmia? I had one done within the year but still get random flutter and heart racing

ECHO and EKG: The ECHO is performed for cardiac morphology, such as are the valve leaking, do I have a cardiac shunt, and how well is the muscle contracting.
The EKG measures the electrical activity of the heart, usually the patient wears a device for 24 hrs. And the recording is analyzed in the lab.
Go back to your cardiologist, and request a holter monitoring, after the assessment, therapy can be provided, m ...Read more

Help please. Could an echocardiogram show if you have a weak heart?

Yes: An echocardiogram is an ultrasound of the heart that specifically evaluates heart structure (anatomy) and function (how well the heart squeezes and fills). This is an excellent test to look for heart muscle weakness. ...Read more

Several things: The heart muscle, the valves, arteries such as the aorta, the four chambers of the heart, fluid around the heart if present, how hard the heart is contracting, whether it is too weak or too thick. ...Read more

Echo: Your question suggests you didn't understand what you were told. You should ask the Doc to explain to you what was learned from the echo and make clear to you what it means. ...Read more

How often does an echocardiogram test show an artifact vs real problem?

Depends: Certain body types such as morbid obesity can cause poor images. Pts with COPD will also result in poor pictures as well. Some remenants from when we were in our moms uterus can also persist and be picked up on ultrasound. Most of the time its benign. Other types of artifacts may be due to technique of the technician and ofcourse the experience of the reader. ...Read more

Are echocardiogram with contrast safe? What does it show? How long does the test take? Is it only larger hospitals that do this? Thanks in advance!

Contrast echo: This is a safe procedure. The bubble contrast, either from agitated saline or commercial products provide better imaging (ultrasound physics). This is turn allows for a better assessment of the heart's function and structure, commonly performed to look
for shunts between the chambers of the heart that should not be there. Mainly done at hospitalized, but some clinics do it to. Not a long proc. ...Read more

What are the bright areas that show up on an echocardiogram?

Echo bright: Areas that are white on an echocardiogram are densities that can be either thickened tissue or calcium deposits. Other metal items such as mechanical valves, stents or pacemaker leads can also appear white. ...Read more

What can an Echocardiogram show and is there anything significant it may miss?

Echo: The echo is very good at imaging structure and function. No test is devoid of error and besides error echo can't image electrical and some other problems outside the resolution of the technology. ...Read more

Will a stress echocardiogram show if my narrowing of mid LAD has gotten worse?

Echo: This does not show the severity of the interior of the lad. It merely shows wall and cardiac function. By extrapolation if function is bad or worse than before then you can assume that the narrowing is worse. ...Read more

Will echocardiogram show blockages in heart? I'm 6ft, 150lbs, athlete (39y/o) and had one 5 years ago. How often are they 'good' for?

Will echocardiogram show blockages in heart? I'm 6ft, 150lbs, athlete (39y/o) and had one 5 years ago. How often are they 'good' for?

No: An echocardiogram at rest will not show blockage. If the blockage has caused damage 9heart attack) this may be seen on the echo as an area of abnormal wall motion. An echo done during a stress test (stress echo) can indirectly indicate if a portion of the heart is suffering from reduced blood flow - which would indicate a significant blockage. ...Read more

Does an echocardiogram show clogged arteries?

Does an echocardiogram show clogged arteries?

Rarely: One can sometimes on a technically good study see portions of the coronary arteries. The oringin of the left main coronary artery for instance is not uncommonly seen. There are at the present time much better tests to visualize ther coronary arteries. One can see the results of the clogged artery, (a non-moving or poorly moving part of the heart muscle related to a blockage.). ...Read more

Normal but re-check.: Congratulate yourself. ... you have a normal left atrial
volume. At 56 yrs of age. .. presumably I would not expect to detect mitral valve disease, hypertension, or changes in your left ventricle.

My echocardiogram show moderately reduced left ventricular systolic function with and estimated ejection fraction approximately 30-35 Explain please?

My echocardiogram show moderately reduced left ventricular systolic function with and estimated ejection fraction approximately 30-35 Explain please?

General definitions: Left ventricular systolic function is a measure of how well the lower left pumping section of the heart squeezes to send blood to the body. Ejection fraction (EF) is the % of blood that is pumped out with each heartbeat. A normal EF at rest usually ranges between 55& 70%. If the heart muscle has been damaged the ejection fraction may be lower. You should discuss results further with your doctor. ...Read more

Would an echocardiogram show restenosis, DES rejection or inflammation of arterie?

Would an echocardiogram show restenosis, DES rejection or inflammation of arterie?

No: Only if restenosis caused enough blood flow restriction to cause a wall motion abnormality on echo.
An artery inflammation would be better screened by lab testing.
Stents would not typicaly be considered 'rejected'. There would be a certain inflammatory reaction as the stent heals in place and the body covers it with skin. If the stent is not expanded properly, there could be a problem with des. ...Read more

My echocardiogram reports shows mildly dialated ra/rv and mild tr/ estd rvsp of 36mmhg, cause unknown, what may be the reason & what's are the the risks?

Not sure: Without knowing more about your medical history and habits, it would be hard to know the cause. Mild dilatation of the ra/rv can be due to several problems, including chronic lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, tricuspid valve disease, a defect (hole) in the atrial or ventricular septum of the heart, abnormal arterial blood flow to the heart muscle, and severe obesity being just a few. ...Read more

Had an echocardiogram done and it says ‘normal sinus rhythm’. But I thought only an ekg could show sinus rhythm?

NSR: Technically you are correct but the cardiologist can "see" what is happening with the echo.
When one listens to a person's heart and it sound regular, one assumes it is sinus rhythm and not any of the other possibilities.
