Could a block basement with an old cistern cause respiratory problems?

Could a block basement with an old cistern cause respiratory problems?

Yes: Block basements and old cisterns are often associated with mold growth. Exposure to molds has been associated with a variety of respiratory disorders and should be avoided. Mold grows best in wet areas so it is important to keep basements dry and avoid household water leaks. If visible mold is present in a house it should be removed/treated by an expert. ...Read more

I'm a young adult who went to a Respirologist and measured 70% lung function. Can this be caused from mild chronic dehydration? Is this normal range?

70% of expected?: If you obtained a result of "70% of expected" for your age and body parameters, you need to be concerned. Most commonly, this is a heads-up that you may have mild asthma. What's this "mild chronic dehydration" stuff? Not drinking enough water can make you constipated, but it's not interfering with your breathing. ...Read more

What can cause a fever in a child with a congenital heart defect?

What can cause a fever in a child with a congenital heart defect?

Same as others: Children in general are prone to recurrent viral infections, regardless of their cardiac status. If otherwise healthy and not recently post-op, common causes of fever should be considered. Would a severe fungal infection in the brain cause an abnormal CBC/CMP or C-réactive protein?

Blood tests: There are a few diseases that leap out from blood tests. Most of the time, however, blood tests don't tell the doctor much on their own, not very specific. CBC and CRP are swayed by many conditions. These include the broad categories of cancer, infection, and inflammatory disease. Fungal brain infection is just one of the myriad possibilities, some serious and some not. ...Read more

Can a pregnancy cause complication with corrected intestinal malrotaion, can the LAD bands break or move causing a new complication or an old one?

Can a pregnancy cause complication with corrected intestinal malrotaion, can the LAD bands break or move causing a new complication or an old one?

Yes-but: Any abdominal surgery leads to scar tissue (adhesions). Lad's bands refers specifically to the type seen before fixing the problems with malrotation. So is a complicated answer, but most women have normal pregnancies who have had prior abdominal surgery. Best is to tell your ob, and together you can decide if a high risk OB (maternal-feto medicine specialist) needs to be involved. ...Read more
