I have had sinusitis for the past two month now and find that I only have yellow mucus when I cough in the mornings. Is this normal? Thank you!
No: Most cases of sinusitis will resolve without antibiotic treatment. The current recommendation is to use antibiotics only for the most severe and persistant, over 7-10 days duration, cases. 2 months of illness is much too long. I recommend that you get a sinus drainage culture and sensitivity, get sinus x-rays or ct scan and get evaluated for allergic sinusitis. Antibiotic treatment is indicated. ...Read more

Post nasal drip: During the night, significant amounts of mucus can collect in the upper airway, back of the throat/nose. Upon awakening, the body's response is to expel this mucus to clear the airway. When mucus is exposed to air it is oxidized (turns yellow or green). If it stays discolored, think of infection, if it goes clear during day, think allergy. An allergist can assist in diagnosis and treatment. ...Read more

I'm not sure of the dosage you received of the co amoxiclav, which is one of the indicated medicines for sinusitis, if the 625 mg dose, it should be 3 /day for 10-14 days in acute sinusitis, several more weeks if you have the chronic type. You did improve some, so continue and see an ENT doctor ...Read more
