I have a terrible cough that produces either very little phlegm or a mouth full of watery phlegm. Laying down seems to make it worse.?

Possibly reflux: It's possible you are having reflux. Stomach juice can come up from below and cause irritation and inflammation of the throat leading to symptoms that you describe. This is why laying down would make it worse. You can try staying away from acids such as coffee tea and soda, don't eat late at night waiting about three hours before laying down and trying over-the-counter antacid medication. ...Read more

I have had a cough for 2+ months. In morning shower I cough up phlegm. Cough and runny nose sometimes extends thru the day. I don't feel sick, and a non-smoker.

Chronic cough : A chronic cough with nasal symptoms and not feeling sick sounds like an allergic problem. Allergies are a chronic disease that often is annoying but not severe. When severe, allergy patients can have a worse average quality of life than cancer patients. A chronic cough for two months could be a viral bronchitis resolving slowly, or asthma, or a subacute sinus infection. Time to see an allergist. ...Read more

I have stopped smoking now for 4 days and have developed a cough with a lot of phlegm also a runny nose and sneezing a lot so what would help?

THIS IS NORMAL: and congrats on quitting. Our respiratory system is lined with cells that contain tiny hairs that produce mucus which is designed to keep our air passages clear of particles, pollution and assorted other junk we breathe in. Tobacco smoke paralyzes these cells, but when you quit, they start working again to clean out all the junk. These symptoms are signs of a good thing. Stay hydrated & stay quit. ...Read more

How to get rid of phlegm in toddler? My 2 yr old son has constant phelgm and severe runny nose and cough. Please help us. No sleep in our house.

He may need abx: If your son has been sick for only a few days it's probably a viral upper respiratory tract infection there's not much to do about it. If he's been sick for a week or more most likely he now has a bacterial infection and should be on antibiotics. Contact your pediatrician and have him evaluated and hopefully placed on a course of antibiotics for at least 10 days. ...Read more

Possible: A productive cough with fever is suggestive of pneumonia, either viral or bacterial. Depending on how long your symptoms have been occurring, it would be reasonable to see your doctor who may choose to get a chest x-ray. ...Read more
