Parenchymal density: is a very nonspecific term, unfortunately. It could mean anything from scar to mass to pneumonia to collapse of a small lung segment. Without the images to review, it is difficult to determine. Likewise, there are both acute and chronic causes of cystic changes. I've been coughing up phlegm in the morning after I wake up on and off for months, sometimes brown. My Dr. doesn't seemed concerned but still it persists. Also occasionally experiencing a minor sore throat. No allergies to my knowledge and non-smoking,

NO, follow advise: You already had an episode of pneumonia , your doctor gave best advise , don't want you to get it back wants to prevent it by giving antibiotics , now it is up to you , if you are not happy take a second opinion. ...Read more
