Coughing Up Phlegm After Running
Smoker I've been coughing up phlegm tinged with blood at times I had a CT scan it states that their is cystic changes and a parenchymal density lung?
Parenchymal density: Is a very nonspecific term, unfortunately. It could mean anything from scar to mass to pneumonia to collapse of a small lung segment. Without the images to review, it is difficult to determine. Likewise, there are both acute and chronic causes of cystic changes. The nonspecific report verbiage needs to be interpreted in conjunction with the images themselves and your clinical picture. ...Read more

Viral Infection: The most likely cause of a runny nose, cough, and fever is a viral infection. It is possible for these symptoms to be related to a bacterial infection that would require antibiotics, however most physicians will advise to wait 24-48 hours before considering prescribing and antibiotic in the absence of any other definitive symptoms that would suggest a bacterial infection. Hope this helps! ...Read more

After running or an intense workout, I always caugh up phlegm, feel nauseous and feel like I'm not breathing in enough air. Had asthma as a child.
Depends: The body always has a reason for what it does. Consistent coughing phlegm is abnormal. Not everyone who is sick feels sick or has fever. There are many potential reasons for the cough, not all of which will make you 'feel sick' it would be wise and appropriate to seek medical evaluation. ...Read more
Nasal Source Likely: Increased nasal drainage due to irritants, or allergens. The drainage causes post-nasal drip/drainage, irritates the throat and causes cough. On a normal day we produce approx 1 liter of mucous, which we politely swallow without saying YUCK! When there is a cold virus, or and irritant, or allergen, this number multiplies, and either our noses run and drip, get stuffy, or post nasal draining. ...Read more

What does it mean when you have bronchitis and you're coughing up phlegm that tastes like smoke, but you don't smoke?
Infection: If the phlegm is foul smelling or tasting it usually means there is infection. Coughing is away for your lungs to try and clear this material and help resolve the infection. Vast majority of infections are viral. Stay hydrated, using an expectorant like guaifenesin can be helpful in the mucus and make it easier to clear. If no improvement in 7 to 14 days, or worse, see your doctor ...Read more
