Frothy phlegm: I would be concerned about tuberculosis given your location although just about any lung and some heart disease can cause this. You should probably have someone listen to your lungs and consider a CXR. ...Read more

Maybe postnasal drip: Mild nasal allergies can cause some muscus dripping in back of throat/mouth and collects there during sleep and can turn a bit brown in the am. During day, little mucus/drip is pulled down by gravity, but when sleeping mucus tends to stay in back of throat and thus productive coughing/coughing in the early am. If worsens, call doc for eval. Possibilities..: An acute cough, especially with fever and sputum production, could be due to acute bronchitis or even pneumonia . The continued cough could be related to bronchospasm which can occur after an infection like acute bronchitis and pneumonia. See your doctor since bronchospasm can be treated with bronchodilator and possibly steroid inhalers. Smoking cessation will reduce airway inflammation. ...Read more
