My grandfather had surgery to remove a femoral aneurysm 2 days ago. He is still coughing up blood. Is this normal?

No: Coughing up blood is never normal. Could be from bronchitis, or from more serious issues, like cancer. If it is streaks, it's not as acutely serious as coughing up liquid or globs, or bright red blood. Coughing up blood is a medical emergency. Call your doc now for advice, or go to er.

Swelling from tube: You probably had a breathing tube during the surgery. Your body now has swelling from the tube that was in your airway. This should get better. If you have difficulty breathing see your doctor. Otherwise try to deep breath 10-15 times every hour and cough up any mucus. Drip fluids like juice and water. If you are diabetic watch the sugar.

When I breath in or out I taste blood in my mouth but there isn't any, and when I cough I feel like I'm coughing up blood but I'm not. Why is that?

Puzzler: If you taste blood but there is none, perhaps you are experiencing a metallic taste, which many describe blood to taste like. If so, think about medications being taken, many cause this, and there are medical conditions that can mimic this as well. It is beyond an internet diagnosis, and I suggest you see your physician soon to sort it out. Good luck!
