When I breath in or out I taste blood in my mouth but there isn't any, and when I cough I feel like I'm coughing up blood but I'm not. Why is that?

Puzzler: If you taste blood but there is none, perhaps you are experiencing a metallic taste, which many describe blood to taste like. If so, think about medications being taken, many cause this, and there are medical conditions that can mimic this as well. It is beyond an internet diagnosis, and I suggest you see your physician soon to sort it out. Good luck!

See a doctor: Coughing up blood can be non-serious (blood from dried out nasal passages) or it can be serious (bacterial infection in the lungs, cancer). I would get seen by a doctor, possibly get a chest x-ray and treatment for whatever the underlying cause might be.

I have been having a reoccurring cough which happens mostly in the evening especially a couple of hours after exercise. What could it be?

My 15 year old daughter always has a chronic cough in winter, especially after exercise. Why is this?

Reasons: A prolonged viral illness, undiagnosed asthma, acid reflux disease and allergies can all be the source of a chronic winter cough. It may be most reasonable to see a pediatric pulmonologist to help discern the cause of her chronic cough.

My 15 year old daughter always has a chronic cough in winter, especially after exercise. How can we get this treated?

Might be asthma: Your daugther may have cough variant asthma induced by exercise and/ or allergies and/or upper respiratory infections that she may get in the winter time. Her pediatrician would be able to listen to her history and her lungs and possibly do spirometry in the office to tell if an inhaler may help her. This could also be post nasal drip from colds or allergies and an antihistamine might help.

Bronchospasm: You probably have what is called "exercise-induced bronchospasm." your airway tightens up in response to exercise. See your doctor about getting an inhaler (bronchodilator) that you can use several minutes before you exercise, and it will help pre-treat the problem.
