Fluid on lungs after gb surgery. Has dementia and cannot walk around much or cough up phlegm. What is the treatment and outlook? Still in hospital.

Fluid around lungs: After gb surgery is not common. If the gallbladder was very infected it may be reactive fluid. Other causes, such as pneumonia, should be considered. If it is infection then appropriate antibiotics should be started. If there is a lot of fluid restricting breathing then a tube may be placed to remove the fluid. See doc now: Most minor viral illnesses run about 2 weeks, are worst on about day 4 and then start to get better. If you are feeling this bad a week in, go to the doc. With a swollen tonsil, you could have a throat abscess which can be very dangerous. "Hot Potato" voice is a symptom of this. Coughing blood is not normal. My husband would be sleeping and all of a sudden coughing up so bad it leads to vomiting what could be wrong? He did have lung surgery b4 I met him

Proper evaluation: It is difficult from this account to make a diagnosis. He could have sleep apnea and he wakes up gagging to a point of vomiting, or he could have off and on aspirations which could be corrected with proper positioning. I don't know the surgery he had either so I can't make a recommendation to that effect. Have proper evaluation or even maybe a sleep study to find out. ...Read more

Since 2007 im coughing up blood every so often with my mucus, canot find the area in the lung with CT or scope, my oxgen is droped to around 83?

I would bet: That you have severe vitamin b1 deficiency. The low arterial oxygen is the clue. It can produce capillary bleeding and the mild to moderate hypoxia in brain can lead to an unnecessary cough reflex. Vitamin b1 deficiency can be proved by a blood test known as red cell transketolase so ask your doc. B1 def also requires magnesium for replacemen. See my blog "oxygen the spark of life". ...Read more

Smoker I've been coughing up phlegm tinged with blood at times I had a CT scan it states that their is cystic changes and a parenchymal density lung?

Parenchymal density: Is a very nonspecific term, unfortunately. It could mean anything from scar to mass to pneumonia to collapse of a small lung segment. Without the images to review, it is difficult to determine. Likewise, there are both acute and chronic causes of cystic changes. The nonspecific report verbiage needs to be interpreted in conjunction with the images themselves and your clinical picture. ...Read more
