My 3 year old son has been coughing & throwing up mucus every couple hours & coughing gets worst when sleeping can't catch breath?
He needs to be: Examined by his doctor. This may be a virus, but if he is worsening and having trouble breathing, he needs to be examined so that proper treatment can be started if necessary.
Viral syndrome: It sounds like you may have picked up a viral syndrome. The best thing to do is to remain hydrated, use Ibuprofen at the appropriate dose and get plenty of rest.
I've had a cough for about 5-6 days now. I got the cough a day after I was throwing up, over night sickness. The cough is dry but some mucus comes up.
Yellow upheaval: Your child has an ailment affecting his respiratory tree. At this time of year the most common cause is a viral upper respiratory infection or possibly the flu. The yellow vomitis is probably mucus, but if he has been vomiting for a prolonged period it may be bile. Other causes may be due to allergies or there may be a smoker in the house. If symptoms continue, it's time to get checked out.
My 8 month old has a bad cough and lots of mucus. He keeps throwing up after coughing is there anything I can give him?
No cough medication: But keep his nasal passages clear with a cool moist environment. Help him clear his secretions by patting him on the back. Feeding him small amounts frequently may help his vomiting. Have his chest checked to see if anything else will help. All the best and make sure his immunizations are current.
My 3 month old has had stuffy nose sneezing throwing up once a day maybe 2 depends she has a cough when she throws up it is mucus?
5 yr old son went to bed saying his belly hurt. 3 hrs later he's throwing up. Started with lots of fluids & mucus (cough for week) now only yellow bile?
My 6mth old daughter has a cough and throwing up her feeds, some loose nappies, no temp or irritability. There is green in her mucous and some bile?
Cough: Needs to be examined by her pediatrician.
Suporrtive care: As long as the child is eating well, staying pink and does not have a fever (rectal temp of 101 or under the arm 100), then salt water up the nose (ayr, nasalide, ocean nose drops) will help. Generally we recommend these babies be seen even if it seems like just a cold...Because of the age. Your doctor may also want to test for a virus called rsv. Continue feeding normally...See 1 more doctor answer
Postnasal drip: Most like causes of chronic cough in adults are chronic bronchitis (smokers with yellow am sputum), gastric reflux, cough variant asthma, allergy, and post nasal drip. Most cause dry cough but sometimes can expectorate clear saliva or mucous which is of infrequent concern especially if normal chest x-ray and no breathing problems. Average healthy nose makes 1-1.5 pints of mucous daily!
I have had a loud cough for about a month now, it produces mucus after a lil while of coughing, I get annoying coughing attracts at night and days.
See a doctor: A cough that lasts that long needs to be checked out. See your doctor.
I was sick the coughing stop, but when I force myself to cough its still loud and there's still mucus, but it doesn't do it on its own, will it go away?
Windpipe: This may be an aftermath of tracheal irritation after a viral upper respiratory tract infection which was associated with coughing up mucus. This residual irritation should eventually resolve without antibiotics unless you are coughing up discolored sputum in which case you should consult your physician for treatment.
See a Dr!: Depending on the level of difficulty, you may need to go to the ER, or at least give your Dr a call! Sometimes people can have a heart attack, and their only complaint is difficulty breathing, so don't ignore this! If it is just mild difficulty and has been developing gradually it is probably not an emergency. Things like emphysema, adult onset asthma can also cause difficulty breathing.

Mucus: Simplest thing is a mucus thinner called 'mucolytic' such as regular Robitussin or Mucinex (guaifenesin). Active ingredient is Guaifenesin which is very safe. Also drink plenty of fluids (water) to thin secretions while taking Guaifenesin and making it easier to cough out. Ask yourself why you are having a productive cough, and address the cause itself if possible. For example, quit smoking.
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system.
