Why is it that after I take inhaler I cough?

Why is it that after I take inhaler I cough?

Irritant: An asthma inhaler contains the active ingredient and the propellant which can be cold in temperature and irritate the throat leading to cough. The dry powder inhalers can lead to cough because of irritation as well. The airway in patients with asthma is already "hyper-reactive" =twitchy and inhaling almost anything can trigger a cough. Rarely, asthma inhalers can actually trigger bronchospasm. ...Read more

Cough (Definition)

The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more

Diagnosed preasthmatic because I cough too much at times. Using inhaler stops it, but it can start again. Coughs triggered by cold air, smoke, perfume?

Sounds about right: Not sure what the question is. There is a cough-variant asthma and it sounds like you have that and that it is triggered by cold air, smoke and perfume. If you are using the inhaler more than once a week to stop the coughing fits then you should see an allergy/asthma specialist for further evaluation and treatment. ...Read more

Cough: While cough is a common symptom of asthma, there are other reasons for cough. Assuming the inhaler technique is good (challenging for infants), other reasons for cough should be evaluated. Also, if there is difficulty administering inhaler, other options such as home nebulizers are available. Infants with recurrent respiratory symptoms should be evaluated by lung specialists. ...Read more

See MD: Most liklely you have " reactive airway " with some degree of bronchospasm - very common after infection is over. Just inflamed airways and irritable. There may be some inflammation - mucus and so producing ' rattle". If no fever and in general feeling better - you may needs t use for short time " steroid inhaler " for calming down airway inflammation. But see your MD firs to examine you. ...Read more

Does spriva inhaler make a person cough and get rid of phelm?

Does spriva inhaler make a person cough and get rid of phelm?

Slowly opens airways: This is not a quick fix inhaler - it works over time to reduce the irritability of the tissues in your airways so you can breathe more freely.
It is possible that the immediate effect of using the inhaler can "tickle" your throat, causing a cough that might bring up some easy phlegm. But that's just a coincidence - not the purpose. If it helps, good. But the aim is to reduce inflammation. Best! ...Read more

Prescribed albuteol for cough and wheezing, soon noticed a rash and red bumps on body. Stopped inhaler and using benedryl. Rash not going away! 3 days?

Rash, cough & wheeze: Although possible, it's rare to get a rash from albuterol. Have your physician diagnose it; I believe it's not related to the inhaler. Taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can worsen the cough and wheezing as well. So I advise you to resume the inhaler immediately in addition to starting a steroid inhaler 2x a day to prevent worsening of your condition. ...Read more

See doctor: It is not unusual to cough up something after using the inhaler when there is inflammation in the airways. I suspect that you have asthma however. Throat-clearing after eating may also be a sign of reflux. It's time for you to see a doctor and get a lung function test. ...Read more

My mum keeps on coughing all the time. She says she has asthma, but she doesn't have an inhaler. How else can she treat the cough?

Need proper diagnosi: Most people think shortness of breath is the only sign of asthma. Many times a constant cough is present (as may be in your Mom). Of course, getting tested and treated with both a rescue and controller inhaler may be the answer. Get her tested and treated.

Yes: This generally means they do not consider you at much risk for being hospitalized and should respond to outpatient treatment. You can push through your exercise routine and back off if you get dizzy/feel faint or realize your body is telling you to slow down. ...Read more

Pedunculated polyp: A polyp or benign mass growing from a stalk above your vocal cords will hang down when you're standing irritating the true cords & causing cough. When lying down the polyp just hits the back of your throat or swings in the breeze, so to speak. Rare? Quite. Dr. Ostro is right this sounds like an anatomic problem requiring an ENT exam. A spirometry with flow-volume loop is also a good idea. ...Read more

Not quite: The inhaler is to relieve bronchial constriction. The inhaler will not lead to asthma....Asthma leads to the use of an inhaler. Excessive use of any medication can lead to unpleasant side effects that can land you in the er. Use the inhaler properly and as directed, and if there is still a problem with the cough, be seen again. ...Read more
