Coughing After Using Inhaler
Irritant: An asthma inhaler contains the active ingredient and the propellant which can be cold in temperature and irritate the throat leading to cough. The dry powder inhalers can lead to cough because of irritation as well. The airway in patients with asthma is already "hyper-reactive" =twitchy and inhaling almost anything can trigger a cough. Rarely, asthma inhalers can actually trigger bronchospasm. ...Read more
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Diagnosed preasthmatic because I cough too much at times. Using inhaler stops it, but it can start again. Coughs triggered by cold air, smoke, perfume?
Sounds about right: Not sure what the question is. There is a cough-variant asthma and it sounds like you have that and that it is triggered by cold air, smoke and perfume. If you are using the inhaler more than once a week to stop the coughing fits then you should see an allergy/asthma specialist for further evaluation and treatment. ...Read more

Cough: While cough is a common symptom of asthma, there are other reasons for cough. Assuming the inhaler technique is good (challenging for infants), other reasons for cough should be evaluated. Also, if there is difficulty administering inhaler, other options such as home nebulizers are available. Infants with recurrent respiratory symptoms should be evaluated by lung specialists. ...Read more

Slowly opens airways:
This is not a quick fix inhaler - it works over time to reduce the irritability of the tissues in your airways so you can breathe more freely.
It is possible that the immediate effect of using the inhaler can "tickle" your throat, causing a cough that might bring up some easy phlegm. But that's just a coincidence - not the purpose. If it helps, good. But the aim is to reduce inflammation. Best! ...Read more

Prescribed albuteol for cough and wheezing, soon noticed a rash and red bumps on body. Stopped inhaler and using benedryl. Rash not going away! 3 days?
Rash, cough & wheeze: Although possible, it's rare to get a rash from albuterol. Have your physician diagnose it; I believe it's not related to the inhaler. Taking Benadryl (diphenhydramine) can worsen the cough and wheezing as well. So I advise you to resume the inhaler immediately in addition to starting a steroid inhaler 2x a day to prevent worsening of your condition. ...Read more

Yes: This generally means they do not consider you at much risk for being hospitalized and should respond to outpatient treatment.
