My 2.8 yrold has runny nose- and a cough at night-- no fever-- 2 days in. He's had tons of colds -this time his nasal discharge is thicker and yellow?
Sounds like: Postnasal drainage causing the coughing spells. Need antihistamine to take care of the colds which eventually takes care of the cough. Change in color of colds does not indicate bacterial infection, virus, allergies can do the same. Watchful waiting and supportive treatment at this time since he is not running fever. See Peds if condition worsened. ...Read more
Wezzy lung mild cough runny nose yellow in color no fever feel fine. Why lung wezzing when I take deep breaths?
Restrictive Airways: Is the term that comes to mind. "wheezing" is the sound created when air moves through narrowed breathing passages or tubes. Because there may be differing causes for the condition you describe, it's best, ultimately, to find out why. Allergy, infection, asthma, smoking-related constriction are possibilities. A mild URI may also lead to intermittent wheezing which is self-limited and not serious. ...Read more

Doctor can evaluate: A primary care doctor can evaluate to see if there is a cold (viral infection), a strep throat (bacterial and would need antibiotics), a sinus infection, allergies in the nose and sinuses, mucus or wheezing in the lungs (might need some asthma treatment), sinus symptoms related to other causes, etc... Since one can have one or more of these issues at the same time, a doctor's visit is recommended. ...Read more
Hi, I have been feeling unwell for the last 4 days. On/off fever, cough with thick and yellow phlegm, runny nose, hoarse voice and sore throat with difficulty swallowing.
Cold?: Sounds like a viral syndrome. Would treat with symptomatic fixes. Lots of fluids and stay hydrated. Ice blocks are perfect for this. Water, milk, juice, sports drinks are all good. As for the fever it is ok to alternate pamol every 6 hours with ibuprofen every 8 hours. Decongestants and anti-histamines will help with the upper resp symptoms. Rest chicken soups are also good. See Dr if not better in a few days ...Read more
Day 1-2- fever, chills, sore throat, cough, Day 3- current (7) very congested, constant dry cough (hard to stop), green/yellow nasal discharge?
My almost 3 year has had a fever (now low grade) with stuffy/runny nose (clear/yellow mucus) for some days now.... What could it be?
Friend has fever for 3 days. 101. Runny nose stared clear now yellow. Tired is antibiotic needed now?
No: This still sounds like your average viral respiratory tract infection. The fact that nasal drainage has become colored does not mean it is bacterial and warrants antibiotics. It means the body is doing what it is supposed to by sending white blood cells to the area to fight the infection, which causes the change in color of the mucous. She is tired because her body wants her to rest. ...Read more

May need antibiotics: The usual viral upper respiratory infection lasts about 1 week. M 40 yo I cough like I will almost throw up but I don't.2 weeks now. No fever or runny nose. Having bad sore throat 5 days ago. Dr gave antiBio and cough?
Bronchospasm: Assuming you are not a smoker, have sinusitis with cough from postnasal drip, nor diagnosed as having pneumonia, COPD or asthma, you probably have acute bronchitis of viral origin with persisting bronchospasm. This often improves with short-course prednisone & bronchodilator. If not, further evaluation is necessary. Hope that helps. ...Read more
2yr old has a cough for 4 weeks day and night. Eats/plays normal. No fever, or runny nose, no wheezing. Throat irritated from cough. Allergies? Doc visit?
Should end soon: You may have had an influenzal-like illness and this should begin to resolve within 7-10 days of onset. If it continues you might visit your pcp and let them examine you. The only way to get rid of a cold is to treat it symptomatically with otc meds and wait it out. Stay hydrated, use decongestants, cough syrup with dextromethorphan, tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen. If it gets worse see a doctor. ...Read more

Kids: You should have them see their pediatrician to determine what is causing their recurrent symptoms. If they are having cough after running around or during their sleep, they may have asthma. Your doctor should evaluate their current febrile illness. Children at that age will acquire repeated viral infections from other children during the winter season. ...Read more
Viral infection: Your symptoms are classical for an upper respiratory tract viral infection. These infections require your own innate immunity to resolve the symptoms.
