On the other hand it would be helpful to know how long you have been ill, to whom you were exposed, whether you smoke, have fever, chills, nausea, shortness of breath, etc. Make a list of everything and take it with you to the doctor. ...Read more

Many causes: A 36 year old female with sore throat, mucus, dry cough, runny nose, headache, chills. This could be a simple virus (like a common cold), or a virus like the flu which causes more severe symptoms. It also could be a bacterial infection like strep pharyngitis or sinusitis. Give it time: It sounds like you have an upper respiratory tract infection. Give it a few days. If you continue to worsen past 4 or 5 days of symptoms, then you may need an antibiotic.
