I have a persistant swollen, sore throat with with mucus. No fever. Also dry cough, runny nose, mild headache, and chills. Cold/flu? Tonsillitus?
Many causes: A 36 year old female with sore throat, mucus, dry cough, runny nose, headache, chills. Many thoughts: A 4 year old with fever and headache can have a mild illness or a severe illness. I first think of strep throat or viral sore throat. Then i think of pneumonia, viral infection, and then the big ones, meningitis and such. I would like to know if s/he is better after some Ibuprofen or acetamenophen? Rash? Sore throat? Start with sore throat and then chest congestion, itching throat, cough with sputum, yellow thick. Is that bronchitis?

Cold symptoms: Try NSAID like Aleve (naproxen) for pain and fever, decongestant with guaifenesin decongestant like mucinex and cough suppressant like dextromethorphan if needed. Hot shower, sleep with head elevated, vitamin c, hydration and soothing beverages helpful. If pain or fever and symptoms persist 10 days or green/yellow secretions and fever see doctor. Viral URI?: Without seeing and examining you it is impossible to say what this is, but based upon the description you provided it is not unlikely that this is a viral illness. Don't worry.: Pneumonia will give you a fever and your symptoms would have gotten worse, not better, without treatment. It is common to have congestion and cough when recovering from an upper respiratory infection, the majority of which are caused by viruses. not bacteria. Viral syndrome: This is likely a upper respiratory viral infection in evolution. Sore throat (pharyngitis) with fever, followed by cough and other flu like symptoms. Best treatment is rest, plenty of fluids, tylenol (acetaminophen) or Ibuprofen for aches and fever. A decongestant and cough suppressant may be helpful when these symptoms arise. Hi, I have been feeling unwell for the last 4 days. on/off fever, cough with thick and yellow phlegm, runny nose, hoarse voice and sore throat with difficulty swallowing.
Cold?: Sounds like a viral syndrome. Would treat with symptomatic fixes. Lots of fluids and stay hydrated. Ice blocks are perfect for this. Water, milk, juice, sports drinks are all good. As for the fever it is ok to alternate pamol every 6 hours with ibuprofen every 8 hours. Decongestants and anti-histamines will help with the upper resp symptoms. Rest chicken soups are also good.
