Bronchitis: Sounds like you have bronchitis...the green sputum generally indicates infection with Pneumococcus the. germ that sometimes needs antibiotics HOWEVER since you were hospitalized a CULTURE of your sputum is absolutely necessary since you were exposed to a number of germs NOT necessarily in the "Community" See your doctor! May be an infection: If you are running fevers, then you may have an infection. A week ago you may have contracted a virus and it may have turned into an infection. You should see a physician to determine if you need to be on antibiotics after an exam. ...Read more

What's ur question?: We used to equate color of mucus w/source of infection. In other words, green mucus required antibiotics to treat infection while clear or white mucus did not. In fact, recent studies show no correlation btwn mucus color & causative agent & response to antibiotics. Truth is most common colds are due to viruses which aren't responsive to antibiotics. Wheezing/Cough: Feeling weak and tired with coughing up green mucus is concerning for infection, somewhere. Wheezing would suggest the lungs. Could be asthma exacerbation, bronchitis. Could also be a sinus infection since the nose/sinuses are "stuffed up." most often for infections of the sinuses or the lungs or airway, you might need antibiotics.
