I have these episodes when I cough and vomit afterwards. Should I see a pulmonologist?

Asthma: When this type of symptom complex continues to reoccur it raises the possibility that you are having an allergic reaction to something and that you are having symptoms of cough variant asthma. Your chest xray and pulmonary function tests will often be normal. It may be time to see an allergist or at least be tried on an inhaled steroid containing medication. ...Read more

I am coughing up green lumpy stuff. I have a RA and see pulmonologist for issue I have some nodules and cough up infection everyday but caught flu?

Influenza: Hopefully you're immunized yearly with flu vaccine. If you become ill and suspect influenza you should be tested and treated with an antiviral. If you have pulmonary nodules from RA and were previously asymptomatic and now coughing up exudate it would be wise to go back and see your pulmonologist. Ra and its treatments makes you immune suppressed and at risk of very severe infections. Go now. ...Read more

I have allergic asthma. I feel really sick (dizziness, tight chest, cough) but I never have a pulse ox below 98 so PCPs don't take it seriously. Do I really need a $1K consult with a pulmonologist?

I have allergic asthma. I feel really sick (dizziness, tight chest, cough) but I never have a pulse ox below 98 so PCPs don't take it seriously. Do I really need a $1K consult with a pulmonologist?

Asthma: Just because you don't have a low oxygen saturation does not mean you don't have significant asthma. Have they done pulmonary function testing? You need to see a Family Doc experienced with Asthma, an Allergist or a Pulmonologist. I see no reason it should cost that much. This is an everyday problem that we care for all the time. ...Read more

Asthma: Here are just 4 possibilities Many people feel short of breath if the nasal passages are obstructed. I assume the pulmonologist ruled out asthma and other lung conditions , a pulmonary function test can be helpful. If you are taking hormones and your heart rate is >100 then clots to the lungs are to be considered. Esophageal conditions can sometimes cause tightness that feels like breathlessness ...Read more

My 7 yr old is still coughing after a cold 2 weeks ago. So am I. I have asthma and I'm a smoker. Can she be seen by my pulmonologist?

Start w pediatrician: After eval by pediatrician, referral to a pediatric pulmonologist may be warranted. There can be several reasons for cough to last more than 2 weeks. Some adult pulmonologists may see kids, but a pediatric specialist may be more equipped to evaluate. It also should be stressed that being a smoker or having tobacco smoke exposure can only make things worse. ...Read more
