What does it mean I cough up yellow mucus every morning just mornings I don't feel sick?

What does it mean I cough up yellow mucus every morning just mornings I don't feel sick?

Post nasal drip: During the night, significant amounts of mucus can collect in the upper airway, back of the throat/nose. Upon awakening, the body's response is to expel this mucus to clear the airway. When mucus is exposed to air it is oxidized (turns yellow or green). If it stays discolored, think of infection, if it goes clear during day, think allergy. An allergist can assist in diagnosis and treatment.

Every morning I wake up my throat hurts until I'm able to cough up mucus, sometimes is green and slimy but other is dark green and really dry why?

Dr. Can check throat: Throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or other virus (antibiotics usually not used), allergies or irritants, sinusitis, stomach reflux when asleep, etc... Usually, a person sees the doctor if the throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep and review the story to see if sinusitis or reflux might be a cause).

Why do I cough up mucus in the morning?

Why do I cough up mucus in the morning?

Allergies? Reflux?: A person who has a cough producing mucus (phlegm) should see a doctor. The doctor can evaluate to see if there are allergies, sinusitis, stomach reflux, asthma, bronchitis, or perhaps another problem in the chest. Problems can be more serious if the person is a smoker or has other health problems. Smoking is a major risk factor for several lung diseases, including cancer.

Why do I cough up mucus

Why do I cough up mucus

Mucous...: Mucous is formed so that the body can get rid of foreign matter, like bacteria and viruses. If you are coughing excessive mucous, it may mean there is inflammation present in the airways. This could be due to diseases like chronic bronchitis, a form of copd, asthma, bronchiectasis, etc. See your doctor so your condition can be diagnosed and treated.

I am a 37yr old female smoker. I cough chronically more so at night while laying down. Sometimes I cough up mucus that is either clear, green brown.

Cough: If you have a cough with sputum production then you have bronchitis-possibly chronic obstructive bronchitis (COPD) given smoking history. Cough however is often multifactorial and can be worse at night due to gerd/reflux or post nasal drip or aspiration or even irritant exposure (such as from sleeping on down pillows/sleeping with pets/etc) to name a few.

I quit smoking a year ago and still cough up mucus with black flecks in it. Is this normal?

I quit smoking a year ago and still cough up mucus with black flecks in it. Is this normal?

Black Flecks & Mucus: Coughing up black flecks is not a normal condition. It reminds me of black lung disease that is typically found in coal miners. Florida does not have coal mines, so I would not expect this finding. I would see a physician, get a chest xray and if possible save a sample of the coughed up mucus to be checked out.

See doctor: It could be several different things---bronchitis, pneumonia, asthma (or a combination), depending on your history. You need to be seen and given appropriate treatment, since even untreated asthma can be life-threatening.

No corelation: The symptoms of a tooth or gum infection are usually pain and swelling. There would be no reason that coughing up mucous would be tooth related.

I teach + I have been home w/ acute bronchitis for 2 days. I cough up mucus + have some shortness of breath, but feel better. Can I return tomorrow?

I teach + I have been home w/ acute bronchitis for 2 days. I cough up mucus + have some shortness of breath, but feel better. Can I return tomorrow?

Flu; talk to doctor: U should not return to work until u r absolutely free of symptoms, as their is a risk of transmitting bronchitis to ur students. I assume u were tested for the flu; most bronchitis is viral in origin, & most viruses have no effective treatment. Most viruses run their course in 7 to 14 days. All u can do is hydrate, rest, get the influenza vaccine, & wait. Good luck, thanx for asking HealthTap!

Asthma: The most common cause of persistent cough after a flu is asthma. Even if you are not known to have asthma you could have what we call reactive airway disease, which is asthma that manifests after a cold. You should see your doctor.

I'm having shortness of breath/ tightening in my chest. My inhaler isn't working as much. I cough up mucus with black streaks. Cough when can't breat?

I'm having shortness of breath/ tightening in my chest. My inhaler isn't working as much. I cough up mucus with black streaks. Cough when can't breat?

Mgt: If your inhaler is not as effective in controlling the cough, your respiratory plan needs to be adjusted. The black streaks may be dried blood or tar. If you are smoking, avoid all smoke exposure, including second hand smoke. I would suggest a follow up with your PCP, and a follow up can be arranged online. Healthtap. Com/DosanjhMD Code: NCYHPZ

When you use nasal spray for post-nasal drip, is it supposed to make you cough up mucus?

When you use nasal spray for post-nasal drip, is it supposed to make you cough up mucus?

Usually not but: If your sinus openings have been obstructed, the fluid collected may drain after they open up ->draining with the nasal spray. If you aim the spray straight ahead instead of towards the lateral wall, some may get into your throat -> coughing.
