Cough Syrup Hydromet
I accidentally took 1 tablespoon of hydromet cough syrup rather then 1 teaspoon. Should I be worried?
No: May be a bit drowsy. Wouldn't operate any heavy machines. Or drive. But should be out of system in a few hours
The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
Can I take delsym (dextromethorphan) 12 hour cough syrup during the day, and then my prescribed hydromet cough syrup at night? I want to make sure this is fine to do.
Maintain: You should give your doctors plan and your body a chance to work. Not k owing your medical situation, I would call your prescribing doctor to let him know you are not happy with current plan. He will then give you a better option. But realize it will take some time.See 1 more doctor answer
Hydrocodone: Hydromet syrup is a narcotic pain medicine with hydrocodone. It is generally considered stronger than codeine. Because they are different medications, it is hard to say what side effects you will have. I have seen patients who have nausea and emesis with Codeine and not with hydrocodone. I have also seen nausea and emesis with hydrocodone and not with codeine. Only way to know is to try it.
Hydromet & Codeine: Hello. Hydromet cough syrup contains hydrocodone. You should not mix that with codeine pills since that is mixing two different opioids (narcotics). It is possible that mixing the two could make you sick. 5mg of hydrocodone is in hydromet. It's possible that the hydrocodone in hydromet can be" temporarily " effective for treating whatever pain condition codeine is being used to treat.
How long does a cough from acute bronchitis last? I have already seen my doctor and been given hydromet syrup to control the cough.
Acute is < 2 weeks.: The term "acute bronchitis" is a description of a problem, not a diagnosis. It could be viral, or a complication of smoking, or a mycoplasma infection, or asthma. It may take more than one visit to tell if your cough lasts more than two weeks. And young adults are susceptible to pertussis (whooping cough), which can last 3 months. Did you get your pertussis vaccine?
I went to my doctor last Thursday with terrible cough, achy feeling and low grade fever. Tested negative for flu. Diagnosed with sinus infection and given hydromet syrup for cough. Also given prescription for azithromycin if it got worse. Got that filled
Sinus infection: Sinus infections can sometimes be challenging to get better. Here are some suggestions. Take the prescribed medicines you outlined. If you are still having symptoms after completing the antibiotics, contact your doctor as you may need additional medicine. Other things you can do including saline rinses, humidifier, nasal decongestants, nasal steroids among others. Saline rinses are effective.
Depends: It depends on what type of lung disease you have. Hydromet has Atropine in it which dries secretions, making them harder to expell.
Cough: Maybe so, maybe not. Depends on the child, why he/she is coughing and the cough syrup. There are many illnesses that cause cough. Best to see your doctor about any significant cough so that the cause is found and proper medicine can be given. For minor coughs honey in hot herb tea is soothing for children over 1 year of age.See 1 more doctor answer
Potentially: Cough syrups may contain a variety of active ingredients such as first generation antihistamines, mucolytics (break up mucus), cough suppressants (dextromethorphan), narcotics (codeine) and alcohol. While most people tolerate these just fine and the cough improves, I prefer to treat the "cause" of the cough rather than just the suppress symptoms. Be careful with any and all medications!
Flavoring: Milk makes mucus, so you may be defeating your own purpose by giving cough medicine with milk. I know cough medicine tastes bad so try some other flavoring or ask the pharmacist for help.
