Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Is Mucinex (guaifenesin) cough cold and sore throat cough syrup ok to give to my 3 yr old?

Decongestants in combination with cough medications can actually be harmful. Using guafenesin may be helpful to help secretions stay loose. Increasing fluid intake and humidity in the air can definitely help. Honey (for kids over 12 months) may be a natural remedy. ...Read more

Hi, I lost voice after taking cough syrup but am also having slow sporadic eyelid twitches, are these related? Have tight chest and sore throat.

No: Cough syrup does NOT cause the loss of vocal function. The symptoms, except the sporadic eyelid twitches, are most likely the result of a viral infection. These types of infections respond to conservative treatment and your immune system. If the symptoms persist for more than 3 weeks, consult your primary doctor. I can not emphasize enough not to take an antibiotic for these symptoms. ...Read more

If it does not, of if you get worse or have any difficulty breathing, call your doctor.
