Had common cold with fever. Fever gone now, just nasal congestion and productive cough. Phlegm appears green. Paranoid about pneumonia?

Don't worry.: Pneumonia will give you a fever and your symptoms would have gotten worse, not better, without treatment. It is common to have congestion and cough when recovering from an upper respiratory infection, the majority of which are caused by viruses. not bacteria. If you get sick again, go see your primary MD for evaluation and maybe an xray, if necessary. ...Read more

What antibiotic to take for Chronic cough with excessive phlegm and fever?

See doctor: Since there are many causes for a chronic cough (lasting more than 3 monrh? ) one needs to establish the cause before treating it. Antibiotic does not help a viral infection and its overuse has created MRSA. If you have a persistent fever, you may need to get a bronchoscopy. Since most chronic coughs are caused by more than a single factor, I suggest that you consult an allergist or pulmonologi ...Read more

I am a smoker, and i have always phlegm without cough, pain or fever.recently i felt a breathing problem ONLY after smoking .Exercise, night breath fine

What's The Message??: So what else will it take to get you to quit (or at least cut down) smoking? At 32 this should not be happening. Yeah, it might be a cold or flu but obviously it's affecting you enough to ask for advice. So here it is: stop smoking, or at least cut back (anyone can cut back to 5 a day). Many people end-up quitting when the lungs are more far-gone than yours might be. You'll heal fine. ...Read more

Other than COPD, what would cause shortness of breath& pain w/breathing in, plus focal airspace disease on chest X-ray? No cough/fever/phlegm.

Many things: COPD should not cause "focal airspace disease" on any films. Typically when we report "focal airspace disease" it implies, but by no means exclusively, that you have pneumonia. There are nearly countless things that can cause these findings. See your doctor. ...Read more

Had linq monitor placed 1 wk ago Now coughing brwn phlegm chest pain fever Wound was draining clear liquid Can I treat at home or should I see a dr?

Unrelated: The link monitor has nothing to do with your other symptoms. Brown phlegm, chest pain and fever is very worrisome. Could be infectious (pneumonia) or potentially a blood clot in your lung. You should seek a healthcare evaluation and they can check out the wound healing from your Linq implant at the same time although that sounds more or less OK. Don't try to treat/diagnose this at home. ...Read more

Productive cough with white phlegm, no fever for more than a week. Ventolin use daily.(increase). See dr? Avoid antibiotics?

Viral URI?: All of your symptoms could be viral. If this has been less than 14 days, what's coming up is not thick green or yellow, you can probably avoid an antibiotic. If your ventolin dose isn't lasting 4 to 6 hours you may need a short course of prednisone. If suddenly get worse or lasts more than 2 to 3 weeks seek antibiotic. ...Read more

Cough (Definition)

The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system. Cough benefits the host by reducing load and benefits the pathogen which may then spread via aerosol. ...Read more
