Both: A cold is an upper respiratory infection. Acute bronchitis is also an upper respiratory infection. I would say you have both: acute bronchitis caused by a cold. The risk is that you may have a LOWER respiratory infection (i.e. pneumonia) - the fever is the worrisome sign. You need to be seen by your doctor ASAP. 6 months old : With productive cough should not be a concern unless your baby is not eating nor drinking. It is good your baby is coughing it up - the mucus. Depends: If you have also been having chills or a fever, there's a decent chance you might have a pneumonia, in which case you will need an antibiotic. If this is just bronchitis and the pain is simply from coughing, a little Ibuprofen might help. Frankly, you probably need a physical and a chest xray. Cough: Cough is one of the most common symptoms. One of the reasons could be adult whooping cough (cough with vomiting). The "whoop" is characteristic only to kids not adults. Other reasons can be chronic bronchitis for example. Eventually cough begets cough.
