A 2-year old is on the second day of off and on fever (100/101). There is chest congestion, occasional cough, not cranky, still active, decreased appetite and is drinking well. I am worried now?

Fever & cough: Fever caused by viral infections can last 3-7 days. Appetite decreases with any infection; that will return when the infection resolves. 1st symptom was pain in both sides of my neck, then a cough with mucas, fatigue, some nasal congestion, no fever, and chest feels heavy.

Allergy??: See your doc first. Most coughs don't require antibiotics. Your doc should get a good history and good physical exam. You might have allergy or asthma or very commonly post nasal drip, none of which require antibiotics. Or you might have a viral infection which also doesn't respond to an antibiotic. Get well soon. You can always use Jewish penicillin-I.e. chicken soup! ...Read more

High BP, nausea, chest congestion, (no fever) difficulty breathing, cough, and dizziness when I stand up. Causes? Have an Echo in a week.

19 years old: All the symptoms you list can be caused by asthma/bronchospastic disease, which, in your age group, would be my first diagnosis. Infection or allergy can be a trigger and should be considered. Unless you have known congenital heart disease, the echo is unlikely to be revealing. Pulmonary function testing is higher yield. A chest x-ray may also help. ...Read more

Sinus probs for full week w/fever, ear pain, congestion, cough. No fever now lightheaded, Cant catch a decent breath, Chest very heavy, no fever just cough?

Shortness of breath: These symptoms should be investigated formally by a doc. I hate to think of it, but sometimes after a viral infection, a bacterial infection can settle in as a one-two punch. Good you don't have fever, but maybe you're suppressing it with motrin/tylenol? I think you need a chest X-ray to make sure your lungs are OK. Hope you get some help there. ...Read more

Should I go to the ER? Mild fever 5 days chest and sinus congestion, deep cough and wheezing. Lightheaded with headache and body aches

Primary Care: Your primary care provider is likely a better choice for non life-threatening illness. ER doctors are trained to work quickly and efficiently in situations where the patient's life is at risk, so you are more likely to be exposed to tests that involve radiation or risk of false-positive results. Of course if you are struggling to breath, the ER is appropriate. ...Read more

Asthma Pneumonia: If he has a past history of asthma treated with Singlair, the that would be a good plan. Mild asthma can progress rapidly into something much worse sometimes without treatment. Does he have a nebulizer with albuterol available at home? Is he short of breath or breathing fast? Can he talk without breathing in between words of a sentence? It may be better to be seen by a physician now. ...Read more
