Deoxygenated blood enters the lungs from the right side of the heart and travels to the lungs. When you inspire, oxygen flows into the lungs, transverses the capilliares and attaches to hemoglobin down a gradient. At the same time, co2 diffuses into the capilaries and is expelled with exhalation. Oxygen rich blood then flows to the left side of the heart and into the ...Read more

Had common cold with fever. Fever gone now, just nasal congestion and productive cough. Phlegm appears green. Paranoid about pneumonia?
Don't worry.: Pneumonia will give you a fever and your symptoms would have gotten worse, not better, without treatment. It is common to have congestion and cough when recovering from an upper respiratory infection, the majority of which are caused by viruses. not bacteria. If you get sick again, go see your primary MD for evaluation and maybe an xray, if necessary. ...Read more
Wet cough, stuffy nose for 2 months (thick green/white phlegm). Don't smoke, no fever, no allergie, blood test ok, xray ok, no sinus inf.
See a doctor: It sounds like you have seen doctors. How you can be sure you do not have an allergy is beyond me. Suggest that you try nasal saline rinses twice a day with a neti-pot (see your pharmacist), and perhaps combine that with a nasal steroid spray. If you are a smoker or around second hand smoke, stop. The material you bring up needs to be examined, and you need a face to face with a caring doctor. ...Read more

Both: A cold is an upper respiratory infection. Acute bronchitis is also an upper respiratory infection. I would say you have both: acute bronchitis caused by a cold. The risk is that you may have a LOWER respiratory infection (i.e. pneumonia) - the fever is the worrisome sign. You need to be seen by your doctor ASAP. Sometimes antibiotics really are needed! ...Read more

Cough: Persistent cough may simply be a delay in recovery from bronchitis due to a virus, with the tissues slow to regenerate. It may also be due to mycoplasma, chlamydia, or pertussis. If she does not have fever or other symptoms and is progressively improving, would not worry. If any other symptoms are present would have the pediatrician or pcp see her asap. ...Read more

The past 4 days I've had a sore throat, dry cough sometimes producing phlegm, diarrhea, chest pain, but no fever. ?
Fever 101.2 feeling exhausted head hurts, dry cough for 2 days but mucus is stuck in lungs .. Nose and throat are ok. Pneumonia Or flu?
Hard to say; get see: A fever of 101.2 deg F is significant & not low-grade (100.4 deg F) so a bacterial infection is definitely possible. Detecting it, tho, is tricky as u will require blood tests & timed blood cultures when ur temp goes that high. Pneumonia just means infx of lungs, not specified as to bacteria or viral. U can get secondary infections of bacteria after lungs weakened by flu virus. See your doctor soon. ...Read more

The cough reflex is a protective mechanism that uses muscles in your throat and chest to expel mucous and saliva that may contain pathogens that would otherwise possibly be inhaled via aerosol or to expel pathogens infecting the throat and respiratory system.
