Consult OB: I agree with your ob-gyn- no medicine unless mandtory during your first trimester. Dark brown honey is an excellent cough suppresant and quite soothing. Most obs will not recommend medication at this time. ...Read more

See doctor: First make sure that your problem is merely a cold and not from something else like asthma or sinusitis. In the 1st trimester of pregnancy, it is best to avoid taking any drug whenever possible but you should not avoid treatment which is necessary. Mucinex (guaifenesin): Mucinex or robitussin(aka guaifenisin) are safe in pregnancy, as is dextromethorphan. Avoid sudafed. Tylenol, (acetaminophen) throat lozenges, saile nasal spray are also safe. If you start having fevers, the cough persists, or feel that you are getting worse, please go see your doctor.
