Take care of you.: Tips: sore throat – gargle with warm salt water (1/2 tsp salt in 8 oz of water). Get strep test/culture if very sore. Congestion – saline nose drops or netti pot. For anti-inflammatory effect & mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup. Hydrate- lots of water/clear broth/ add honey & a small amt. Of lemon juice to chamomile tea.. I'm : I'm sorry that your mom is so sick. She may have influenza, it is certainly going around right now. If she had the flu shot this year then it is unlikely to be influenza. It sounds like the er thought she may have bronchitis, and that is a good medication for that. If she vomits, has fever, shortness of breath, can't eat or drink, or any rash then she needs to return to the er immediately. ...Read more

Probable influenza: Yes, this certainly could be the 'flu' because u may have 'muted' your fever with over the counter 'cold' medicines that contain tylenol (acetaminophen) or aspirin/NSAIDs like motrin. It's flu season now in the Northern hemisphere and we doctors like to say "common things are common".
