Good guess: I agree with you. You should quit smoking NOW otherwise improving your sinusitis will be VERY DIFFICULT. You should be under the care of your primary care and/or ENT physician. Probable allergies: Itchy ears could be caused by wax or eczema. Sometimes there is no obvious reason. Prescribed cortisone drops usually are very effective. Sore throat and congested nose could be caused by viruses, bacterias and allergies. Allergies are very common. Possible/less likely: Allergies can cause these symptoms that you mentioned. But it could be chronic sinusitis. In that case, antibiotics or sometimes surgery can help. Maybe viral infectio: For significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see physician & get a strep throat test & culture. Antibiotics are imperative for Strep Throat. Try saltwater gargles. Mix tsp of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle w this several times/day. You can gargle w Aloe Vera juice a couple of times per day.
