Cough After Appendectomy Surgery
An appendectomy is surgery to remove the appendix. The appendix is a small, finger-shaped organ extending from the first part of the large intestine. It is removed when it becomes inflamed or infected. A perforated appendix can leak and infect the entire abdominal area, which can be life-threatening. An appendectomy is done under general anesthesia, which means you are asleep and do not feel any pain during the surgery. The surgeon makes a small cut in the lower right side of your belly area ...Read more
3 months post op. Nissen/laprascopic, robotic, hiatal hernia repair. Recently experiencing painful, debilitating gas& diarrhea. Is this normal?
Not from the surgery: It is very unlikely that these current symptoms are related to your surgery. By far the most common cause of diarrhea is viral infection (enteritis, or gastroenteritis if it involves nausea/vomiting). With any diarrhea, weight loss, dehydration (feeling like you're going to pass out when standing), or fever lasting > 1 day would be cause for concern. Otherwise these things tend to resolve. ...Read more
2-4 weeks: It depends on how bad the inflammation was, laparoscopic or not?, how long you waited prior to surgery . Whether there was perf or not? Still, in most cases you will go home in 1 -2 days, be in pain the first week, sore the second and then return to activities the 3rd or 4th week. I know a surgeon who had it out and was back at work the next day. Depends on how u deal with pain. ...Read more
How long after abdominal surgery can adhesions develop? I had laparoscopic hernia surgery 5-6 years ago. Is this possible?
Probably yes: Almost all of the gas in the abdomen disappears within 24 hours of the surgery. If your abdomen remains tight and distended (enlarged) I might wait a few days until it resumes a more normal size. A week out from surgery there will not be a problem. Only concern is that you might be flying somewhere remote where there isn't adequate medical care if a problem develops. ...Read more
Weird upper stomach feeling 6weeks post laparoscopic gallbladder surgery & ercp pancreatitis. 3 months post Csection. Uncomfortable. No pain. NORMAL?
Possibly: Residual symptoms of pancreatitis can include some fullness and discomfort, depending on severity and cause. During the period of recovery, abstinence from alcohol, limiting fatty food intake, may limit the stress on the pancreas. Your doctor should check pancreatic enzymes to make sure they are normalizing. If there are any concerns, additional blood testing and further imaging may be necessary ...Read more

Mom is 13 days post op in fl hospital now with severe diarrhea from incarcerated incisional hernia repair by laparoscopic open surgery .Vancomycin?
? C dif enterocoliti: Often prolonged peri-operative antibiotics adversely affect the bacterial content of the colon resulting in an overgrowth of a bug called clostridium difficile. This causes inflammation of the colon lining with resultant severe diarrhea. Stool culture/sample is needed to make/confirm the diagnosis. But if diagnostic tests are +, vancomycin and/or Flagyl (metronidazole) are appropriate treatment. ...Read moreSee 2 more doctor answers
How soon can I return to basketball after laproscopic inguinal hernia repair with mesh. I had the surgery 6 weeks ago.
Graduated: Many surgeons adhere to a traditional 6 weeks to return of activity. However, for those patients who are young and in good health. There is room for a graduated return to activity, such that by 6 weeks, you are back to a full, unrestrictive routine. Talk to your surgeon and get his/her advice based on your age, health and particular hernia problem. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Usually : A seroma is a fluid collection that forms in body spaces, such as where a hernia bulge was present before surgery; the larger the hernia, the higher the probability of a seroma forming. This is typically reabsorbed within weeks after surgery, although underlying mesh may slow this down. Rarely, it persists for months and may require aspiration. I advise you to return to see your surgeon. ...Read moreSee 1 more doctor answer
Which type?: I assume you mean arthroscopic surgery. Certain procedures such as repairing a torn cartilage have very little pain. Others, such as rotator cuff repair or major spur removal can be sore for 3-4 weeks. The difficult part is that each patient has a different pain tolerence that needs to be factored into the equation as well. Overall though, only minor pain usually. ...Read more
