I usually start getting white pasty clumpy cottage cheese like discharge a week before my periods, and I have painful sex during these days.
Vaginitis tests: Are indicated. It could be that you are keeping a low level infection that flares up during the week prior to your period. The symptoms you describe are consistent with Candida vaginitis (yeast). It is a good idea to be tested prior to treating vaginitis, because symptoms of the different types can overlap and incorrect treatment can make symptoms worse.
Probable yeast infec: It sounds like you probably have a vaginal infection. Usually yeast willgive a thick white discharge. You can use over-the-counter medication to treat but you should see your dr. For a proper diagnosis if it doesn't resolve with over-the-counter treatment for yeast infection.
Yeast: An infection, as you described, is probably caused by a vaginal yeast infection and can be treated with Monistat which is over the counter
I have noticed yellowish cottage cheese-like discharge, but only after having drank caffeine. I have not noticed an odor or pain. Should I worry?

Several possibilitie: An exam is the next step. A small cyst is more likely than a lymph node. Could be a labial cyst or something called a Bartholin's cyst. Depending on the location it could be a genital wart or other growth. An exam is the way to figure this out.
