I cannot see your profile but speaking from experience 18 year old females with sharp chest pain, normal chest x ray and good exercise tolerance usually do have costochondritis. It also typically hurts to take a deep breath, cough, etc. Treatment with antiinflammatory medications like ibuprofen and heat to the area decreases symptoms until the inflammation resolves. Over-the-counter pain relievers. Costochondritis symptoms can often be controlled with Acetaminophen (tylenol, others), Ibuprofen (advil, motrin, others) or Naproxen (aleve).
