I placed 3 drops of Cortisporin in my ear canal which suffered a bleeding, open wound. Risk of systemic absorption of Neomycin? Afraid of ototoxicity.
No worries: Cortisporin otic is used for otitis externa all the time. There is no concern whatsoever about systemic absorption and ototoxicity. You're in the clear. ...Read more
If Cortisporin is placed on an actively bleeding wound in the ear canal (no infection) can the neomycin be absorbed into the bloodstream. Ototoxicity?
Not Really Unless: Not really unless you put the drops every few hours. But the question is why would you use cortisporin drops in the ear when there is no infection. It is toop far fetched to think you will get ototoxicity from the drops, Why you ask this question? Not relevant on this site. Hope I answered to your satisfaction ...Read more
Can cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) eardrops cause dry sinus or sinus pressure?
Unlikely: Ear drops shouldn't pass through your ear drum (unless you have tubes or a perforation) and should have no effect on your sinuses. ...Read more
Probably so: Cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) is a combination of a steroid and a topical antibiotic. The steroid is probably the component that is doing the most for your reaction. I would avoid the topical antibiotic unless there is truly a bacterial infection that needs to be treated. The antibiotic portion carries the risk of an allergic reaction and can confound the clinical picture. ...Read more
It can: Some people have such a mild or no reaction that they need nothing at all. Some people have more itching and cortisone cream can really help but it shouldn't be used more than a week or two. Some people have such a bad reaction they need oral cortisone or even iv! ...Read more
Why does my son say his mouth hurts after giving him some cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) ear drops an hour ago?
Can you use a cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) ear suspension to prevent an ear infection?
No: Cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) ear suspension is one of the treatments for a current external ear infection ("swimmers ear"), but is not used for prevention. A mixture of equal parts white vinegar and rubbing alcohol is an old tried-and-true preventative treatment. ...Read more
Is there a problem using cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) ear drops for an ear infection with meniers?
ENT put peroxide in ear in the a.m. and then I put cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) in ear at 10:00 p.m. Ear hurts quite a bit. Bad combination?
Underlying condition: There is undoubtedly some underlying condition present causing your pain. Presumably a swimmers ear, which is the reason an ent would use cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) in the first place? What did she say to use for pain? Are you using the drops as prescribed? Do you have an ear tube in place? Check with the prescribing ent about pain management and regimen for drops. ...Read more
ear pain, ENT put peroxide in it this morning and I instilled cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) in it tonight for infection. Is this a combination to be concerned about?
Should be fine: The peroxide was, likely, to help remove ear wax, though it can, also, be used to kill germs. The cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) is for infection and/or inflammation. So, cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) should help if there is an infection like swimmer ear (AKA Otis externa) in two ways: 1) kills germs, 2) makes it less red and painful. I wouldn't put both peroxide and cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) in your ear at the same time, but hours apart is fine. ...Read more
Can I use camphor phinique for an inner ear infection my ear is stopped up I was prescribed cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) and amoxivillin bunt can't afford them
Confusing statement: Amoxicillin is an old antibiotic and generally very cheep. You should look into a discount card you can find most places. It would be your best chance to cure a middle ear infection of the items listed. Putting camphophonique in your canal may give you something to do, but it wouldn't cure a middle ear infection. You may self heal in 6-8 weeks like they did before antibiotics. ...Read more
Prescribed cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) drops for an ear infection, placed 2 drops in the left ear and immediately experienced moderate hearing loss. Is this normal?
I'm 34 weeks pregnant can I use Cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) solution ear drops for severe infection??
Can I use camphor phenique for a inner ear infection don't have the money for a prescription called cortisporin (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone)
Hello.: Hello. Campho phenique can help with pain of the external ear canal. However if you have a middle or inner ear infection, I am not sure that it would help with those sources of pain. Also, if you have an ear infection, it will not cure it. It also won't help hearing loss. Is there any chance that you have a ruptured ear drum? - because I don't know what would happen if you used this substance and the ear drum was ruptured. ...Read more
Ciprofloxacin: Nope.Get a more detailed answer ›
Ciprodex?: Not sure I have ever heard of aurodex. There are several antibiotic ear drops, including Cortisporin, (neomycin polymyxin and hydrocortisone) Floxcin otic and Ciprodex. But if there is an aurodex, it is probably an antibiotic coupled with a steroid and is used for external otitis or middle ear infection with a tube or a perforation of the ear drum associated with middle ear infection. ...Read more
