Will a cortisone injection help fix or relieve a bulging disc?

Will a cortisone injection help fix or relieve a bulging disc?

Bulging Disc: A bulging disc may not be cause of pain. It is just a finding on and MRI and may not mean anything. In fact, in a review of lumbar mri’s in individuals with no back pain, 54% of people less than 60 had at least 1 bulging disc and 74% of those sixty and older had at least one bulging disc (boden et al, 1990). That being said an epidural block offers relief to many patients with back pain. ...Read more

I have a bulging disc in my lower back causing pain from hip to knee. I had a cortizone (hydrocortisone) injection in my hip a week ago now lower lip keeps twitching?

Unlikely related: Cortisone shots can cause minor twitching to the area they're injected & even regional jerks depending on how much & where injected. However, I very much doubt that any shot of cortisone in your hip for pain to your knee could trigger your lower lip to twitch. I believe that's a benign finding of some sort which will resolve. Please help, how much pain relief can I expect from cortizone (hydrocortisone) injections into a bulging disk?

Depends: Epidural steroid injections work very well in a lot of patients, but in order to work, the pain must really be caused by the disk bulge, when frequently it isn't. You are more likely to have relief if you are having the right constellation of symptoms. Pain doctors can be very helpful. ...Read more

Should you get a cortisone injection for tendonitis?

Should you get a cortisone injection for tendonitis?

Some : Some doctors do not like to give more than 1 injection. And it depends a lot upon the response to the injection, the duration, effect on pain, time to return of symptoms and other factors such as who you are or what u do i tend to try a second injection in most of my patients if they desire but i tell them that it may not work fully. In my experience most people with dequervains get better with an injection and a soft splint. Sometimes its the timing that mandates or requests injection, i.e. Busy work schedule, fear of layoff etc especially in these economic times surgery is typically strait forward and wrks well to resolve the problem. There have been studies in other type of hand tendonitis (not in dequervains but one can make a little leap in logic here) that after 2 injections, the economics, your time, your medical dollar for surgery v. Further conservative rx starts to tip towards surgery. Still many patients pursue injections still trying to avoid surgery. Many doctors rather then having this conversation just say one injection is all they give therss no really really right answer, just different options for a way to approach this. I have found that a soft splint works better than a rigid splint for dequervains. Make sure the splint is not the issue, . ...Read more
