Doctor insights on:
I just realized the button battery in thermometer I've been using rectally on my toddler corroded. There was acid all inside. Will this hurt my child?
Amount outside?: Any leakage that was contained within the battery compartment and not reaching the probe surface should not be a problem. Such material might cause a surface burn on any skin touched if it was on the surface of the probe and used. ...Read more
Tumor on top of right corroded artery. Moveable and soft. Been there 2years no growth. 1.5 cm. Will this cause any probs?
Likely normal: I think you have multiple questions on this same finding. Lymph nodes are normally present all over our body and often coincide with vascular structures -- such as the carotid artery. Lymph nodes are usually <= 1cm in size but may be enlarged from prior infections (eg cold, "flu", sinusitis, acne, etc). A stable 1.5 cm lymph node in the neck is likely benign. Movable and soft also suggests benign. ...Read more
Very abrasive ones: Some toothpastes that are marketed and promoted as "whitening" toothpastes can be very abrasive and can wear away teeth if used on a regular basis. You can google it and get a list of toothpastes with their abrasive index to see which ones are the most harmful. There is no problem with any ada accepted non-whitening toothpaste. Can I get a blood clot in my neck from a really intense workout? I have a lump in my neck in my corroded artery. Please help!
Question about paragard/copper IUD basically I am thinking about using a peroxide douche to help eliminate a bacterial vaginal infection. Yes I know I am not supposed to douche...My question is, can peroxide corrode my copper iud? Cannot find the answer
I am fairly confident that peroxide will not corrode your copper iud, although I can not say this with 100% certainty. However I have to highly recommend you not use a peroxide douche. This can affect the natural vaginal flora and cause even more infections to occur. How do you know you have a bacterial vaginal infection? Did you go to your doctor for testing and diagnosis. If not I hightly recommend that you do. Often times women think that are dealing wwith one type of infection and it ends up being something else. Instead of blindly treating yourself, please allow a doctor to guide you in the appropriate treatment.
Good luck. ...Read more

Degeneration: "corroding" certainly has a negative connotation-in reality, spinal degeneration is a completely normal age-related process. All of us will get older & gradually develop worn out discs, bone spurs, disc protrusion, etc - just part of the aging process. Of course, if you get symptoms from this aging process, there are treatment options. Talk to your md to confirm that your diagnosis is degeneration. ...Read more

I want to get an ultrasound on my coroided arteries as a preventative measure. My doc said it isn't needed. Would he do it if I pay out of pocket?
Carotid IMT?: I wonder if you are referring to the carotid imt scan, an ultrasound procedure to look at the thickness of the carotid walls, and thereby evaluate the presence of cholesterol plaque build-up. It is a non-invasive screen, meaning it's safe. At your young age, I wouldn't imagine it would be covered by insurance. It wouldn't hurt you - but there might be better uses for your health care dollar. ...Read more
